Study unveils concerning trend among SA's teachers

A recent national study conducted by Stellenbosch University has unveiled a deeply concerning trend among South African teachers, who are grappling with overwhelming administrative burdens and emotional stress. The findings indicate that half of the educators surveyed are contemplating exiting the profession within the next ten years, attributing their decision to burnout and inadequate mental health resources. Furthermore, a striking 40% of teachers are unwilling to accept postings in rural areas. Dr. Heleen Hofmeyr, a Senior Researcher and co-author of the report, spoke to Elvis Presslin and emphasizes the critical need for immediate reforms
