A minute of video clips from my ride to work after the morning school run, taken from my handlebar camera. Scenery changes from greenway around a pond to greenway through a meadow to tree-lined sidepath paralleling a miserably busy multi-lane arterial full of stressed out people (probably) in expensive cars and oversized pickup trucks. I'm intentionally pedalling slowly to prolong my glorious ride.

June 10, 2024 Reason 11,496 bicycling is better than driving -- stormwater infrastructure edition
My commute from the school drop-off to work involves a greenway that runs around a stormwater retention pond, then gently winds up a grassy hill. I love everything about it.
Video shows bicyclist's perspective of a half-lap around a pond on a greenway. There is a water fountain circulating water in the pond, and the pond is surrounded by grassy meadow. There are large evergreen trees strategically located for shade and visual interest. The video ends as the cyclist climbs a gentle hill up towards a highway, which parallels the greenway from that point on.

My kid had to take a moment to celebrate the joy and freedom of riding a bike on our trip home from school.
The video shows her riding ahead of me on a narrow neighborhood lane, standing up to pedal to gain speed, and then whooping for joy as she sits down and kicks her legs out into the air.

August 04, 2023 The Chapel Hill biking situation is getting lovelier every day
I had to run an errand across town after dropping my kid off at camp, and I'm so glad I did it by bike. This video shows clips from my bike camera during my trip, highlighting some of my favorite bits of cycling infrastructure in and around Chapel Hill (plus one bit I really don't like, but even it wasn't bad this time). April 27, 2023 Automatic Walk Signal, Environ Way
Video shows a bike-camera view of a trip down a sidepath along a major road. As the cyclist approaches a side street, the video pauses to show that the walk signal is already activated, having come on automatically when the adjacent traffic light turned green. A tiny, amazing thing.
