Subdrive

Subdrive brings you our podcast showcasing mixes from artists we respect and love. Their mixes reflect whatever they’re feeling and are inspired by at the moment. We present them without track listing so you can focus on the mix; not the next song.

August’s second mix comes from one half of the brother-duo party A Running Melody, vinyl-head Alan Blancato. Working in several facets of the music industry, Alan decided to focus on his own artist career a few short years ago and has been throwing regular parties in NYC hosting artists like WOLF Music, Max Graef, Iron Galaxy, Fred Everything, Man Power and more.

With the A Running Melody party and mix series, Alan and his brother Andrew wanted to give forward thinking artists a platform to showcase the music that influences them and drives them to push their creative boundaries. We’re always big fans of that here!

Alan’s podcast for us is a vinyl-heavy mix with deep cuts from the worlds of house, tech, and disco. Rare records mixed with modern classics form this hour mix, giving you an idea of what to expect at this tastemaker’s events.

The next A Running Melody event is Aug 26th w/ Jacques Renault (Let's Play House) at the McCarren Hotel & Pool in Brooklyn! → https://www.facebook.com/events/162641304161959/

We’re very excited to introduce August's mix from Berlin-based Asȳl, a gentleman we came across right here on SoundCloud. After listening to his https://soundcloud.com/fromasyl/asyl-reflecting-heartbeats’ set we knew we had to have him on the podcast.

Learning his craft as one half of a duo based in Berlin, Asȳl leapt into organizing parties with a spiritual motivation that highlights a deeper body, mind, and soul connection.

Asȳl’s Subdrive podcast reflects that mission statement with a beautifully crafted mix of melancholic deep house and sounds.

Our latest summer installment comes from New York-based Silver Disco, who since 2009 has put out multiple solid releases via Sugarland Records, one of the best selling independent disco/french house labels of the last decade. His first single "Rock On" charted #53 on Beatport and his records have been played out and supported by names such as Aeroplane, Knight One, Zimmer, and French Express.

For his Subdrive podcast, Silver Disco takes us on a funky ride through the music and genres he loves blending nu-disco, light-hearted vocal records, and house into a perfect summer set.

Summer is in deep swing here in the concrete jungle of NYC, and it’s one year since we re-launched our podcast (hear the first episode from @crybaby1 here: https://soundcloud.com/subdrive/subdrive_crybaby). To mark the occasion and welcome the heat we’ve got several new episodes premiering this month starting with a fresh summer mix from NYC-bred producer and DJ outfit Love Taps → @lovetapsmusic.

Comprised of Danny Johnson and Mike Nasen, the duo connect the dots between the popular and underground, regardless of sub-genre or style. Their music and mixes have crossed the airwaves and decks of the likes of Diplo, BBC Radio 1, Sway In The Morning on Sirius XM, and Fools Gold Radio on Beats1 — along with features on Complex, Earmilk, Stereogum, Discobelle, and Stoney Roads.

With their Subdrive podcast the duo have shaped a mix that showcases their amalgamation of dancehall, hip-hop tinged influences, UK-heavy sounds, with a heavy dose of vocal deep house. It’s a perfect way to kick off summer, preferably next to a pool with a cool drink.

This month’s episode comes from our good friend, former Real Madrid footballer (no, really) and music man Xander Oliver, who delivers a live recording of his set at New York’s Provocateur nightclub on May 7th. Xander showcases his eclectic taste in house ranging from disco, deep house, tribal, latin, funk, and more. A lover of vinyl and classic rich cuts, Xander’s set will please those who favor a groove over drops.

It’s spring in NYC and that means outdoor dance parties, rooftops, BBQs, and warm vibes. So it’s fitting that our latest mix comes from another New York resident DJ and producer, Luka Tacon. Luka cut his teeth in the NY indie rock and dance scene, while slowly drifting deeper into the underground electronic world. As one of the founding members of NYC collective The Deep, Luka and his crew have been throwing down house cuts until the early morning across the city for some time now, including their own "Brooklyn summer staple" Might Get Weird parties.

For his Subdrive mix Luka has compiled a selection of fresh tracks that reflect his eclectic taste in deeper house, techno, and disco. The set paints a picture of the vibe you can expect at one of his parties here in New York, whether it’s on a rooftop, a club, or the back of a fried chicken spot in Brooklyn.

His latest track, "Beyond Your Eyes" is available for free download at @theumbrella, and has a forthcoming release on New York's legendary Nervous Records.

April’s episode is made by an old friend of ours, NYC-based music tinkerer @arq. His upbringing in gotham helped hone his skill as a master selector blending a spectrum of genres for all types of crowds all over NY from spots like The Panther Room at Output, Bossa Nova Civic Club, to tiny hidden gems in the city. His thoughtful digging and choice deep cuts also extend to his collaborations with the versatile talents of his crew, Suavehaus.

His latest mix for our podcast is exactly what Spring and Summer are about: dancing late to warm, deep soulful house, laced with a little techno and disco that allude to the past.

This month we have Queens-native @pablo-romero, a regular behind the decks of Brooklyn’s respected sound spaces Verboten and Output, as well as a resident of underground stalwarts TBA Brooklyn and the Hidden Roots collective.

With this month's mix Pablo has crafted an hour long showcase of laid back house and dub techno that is perfect for relaxing, dancing, or just losing yourself to your thoughts.
