Success Science Episode 064, Season 7:

Mark McMahon: From Flipping $100 Mobile Homes to Millions in Real Estate

Guest: Mark has been in construction all his life. He started working for his Dad installing fireplaces and doing general construction at the age of 12. He grew up in the mountain area of Big Bear CA and moved to Huntington Beach CA at the age of 16. After a brief spell (a little over a year) in college, Mark (and some others) decided it wasn’t a good fit, and he went back to framing houses. He also sold water softeners door to door and over the phone to supplement his income. Turns out he was pretty good at that. Mark got his license at 26 and started his own company, building houses, apartments, restaurants, and laboratories. Near the end of this phase, Mark owned a Koi Pond business, installing and selling pond equipment. When the recession of 2007-2008 hit, the pond business came to a halt. At that point, with a family to feed and hitting rock bottom financially, Mark went to an investment club meeting that changed his life. He was 46. After the meeting, Mark left and went out and bought (for $100) mobile home and flipped it. After massive ups and downs, Mark and his wife Yuko were able to build a real estate business that owns properties in Southern CA, Northern CA, and Hawaii. They also have flipped over 300 homes, and wholesale several properties a month. Mark is now 58. Mark now spends most of his time working with a group of fired-up young people that keep him on his toes, teaching them all about the different aspects of real estate investing, and how they can start creating wealth.

Craig Curelop: House Hacking To Millions

Guest: Craig Curelop is co-founder of The FI Team and a real estate agent and investor in Denver, CO. He moved to Denver in April 2017 and closed on his first property in June 2017, a duplex that he house hacked for one year. He got a little bit creative and rented out the top unit while creating a quasi-bedroom in the living room by putting up a curtain and a cardboard wall divider so he could AirBnb the bedroom. Needless to say, it cash flowed :). Since then he has purchased two more house hacks each of which cash flow about $1,000 per month. Between these three house hacks, he is now financially independent and helping others achieve financial independence through the creation of The FI Team. Outside of real estate and personal finance, some may call him a health nut. Craig's primary goal is not to live to be 200. His goal is to be able to perform at the highest possible level for the most amount of time. Exercising and eating healthy are the best ways to do that. For fun, he loves to exercise, hike, travel, read, write, snowboard, golf, and play/watch sports. Go Pats!
