Hello, you’re listening to High Blood Pressure Wellness Lifestyle with Donna Williams. Could you be addicted to sugar?  I also have a sweet tooth, but I try to consume sugar from a healthy source eight times out of ten. This isn’t about you never having sugar.

Having a sweet tooth makes you feel happy giving your body a sense of euphoria. And as such, with any additive like tendency the more you get the more you want.

The good news is you have the power to rehabilitate your taste buds.

Today’s episode is on Sugar’s impact on your blood pressure.

High blood pressure kills people in the millions worldwide every year. It kills so many people because it contributes to these deaths from a variety of causes including heart attacks, kidney failure and stroke to name a few.

The American Heart Association defines normal blood pressure as 120/80. Anything above 140/90 is considered hypertensive. Values in between are considered prehypertensive.

Increased blood pressure puts a strain on the heart, can damage the sensitive blood vessels in your eyes, your kidneys, cause bleeding in the brain and even lead arteries to balloon and rupture.

The fact that high blood pressure can damage so many organ systems explain why it is the number one killer, so states the Lancet, one of the world’s leading medical journals, that’s funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Global Burden of Disease Study that involved nearly 500 researchers from more than 300 institutions in fifty countries.

I’m sure you have also heard the saying as we age blood pressure tends to get higher and higher. It is said after age 60 you can expect to be diagnosed with high blood pressure and it is inevitable…it is a consequence of getting older. But this doesn’t have to be true. It all depends on your diet.

There was a time in the 1940s when high blood pressure pills were not available, they were not invented as yet. And Dr. Walter Kempner brought his patients with malignant hypertension with levels of 240/150 down to 105/80 with his dietary changes alone that was a rice and fruit diet. Back then this type of malignant hypertension was a death sentence with a life expectancy of only 6 months. Dr.
