Some stigmas carry more weight than others, if that’s even possible. It doesn’t make sense in my brain…. but it is absolutely true in this world.
Suicide.
Addiction.
People run from these conversations while others are living through these real life traumas.
Today’s guest on The Be Ruthless Show doesn’t just fall into one category of these “double stigma…” categories. She’s the “winner winner” of both world’s: parenting a teenager with #addiction that ultimately resulted in his death by #suicide.
Lisa Wilson is a wife and mother of two boys with eighteen years of experience in education. She has dedicated her life to fostering growth and resilience in others. Her journey as a survivor of suicide loss has profoundly influenced her mission to advocate for families facing barriers and trauma, offering them the support and empathy they need to heal.
As part of her grief journey, she became a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, initially to help herself and then to help others. She is passionate about inspiring others to embrace positivity and self-care, believing that wellness and nutrition are foundational to a fulfilling life. Her goal is to educate, encourage, and empower individuals to lead healthier, happier lives through holistic wellness practices.
When she isn't exercising or enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Shawn, and dog, Marlo, she's reading a new book or listening to music while writing in her journal. Finding balance in life and making space for the important work of healing is a huge part of who she is.
This episode is for anyone who’s struggled with loss or knows the complexities of suicide, addiction, and mental illness. Join us as Samantha and Lisa dive into the realities of grief, the importance of community, and the power of embracing the “complicated” side of life.
