Outrageous JoyJoy in Christ: Philippians 2:5-11October 12, 2014Outrageous Joy: a study of the Epistle to the Church at PhilippiMichael’s Personal Goal: To take myself less seriouslyV 6: “in very nature God. He was God in visible form”8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”John 14:8-958 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. John 8:58-59 App: Who do you say that Jesus is? And if you say that He is God then how should that affect how you live in relation to Him? 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. Colossians 2:9-10V 6-8: The King of the Universe Humbled HimselfHis steps downward. The King of the Universe, fully God:1.Made Himself nothing 2. Took on the position of a servant 3. Became a human4. Humbled Himself becoming obedient to death5. Accepted the most humiliating and painful way to die—death on a cross…let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1b-2App: Believe-Confess-Repent-Receive.
