What dark secrets are lurking in the secretive world of sumo? What menacing forces have shaped this sport, and how do they continue to do so to this very day? In this episode we discuss the criminal elements that can sometimes be found just behind the tightly closed stable doors and shed some light on the history that entwines both grand sumo and Japanese organized crime.

We had such a fantastic time interviewing Richard Neal, president of the Swiss Sumo Society and head instructor of the upcoming Sumo Boot Camp in Davenport, Iowa on October 15th. We've never learned so much about sumo in one interview! I've never valued and respected any president of anything as much as Richard! We got to hear his views on the difference between European sumo and U.S. sumo, which pro rikishi have the best personalities and which have the worst, some very interesting details on what to expect at the Sumo Boot Camp this weekend, as well as the Swiss Sumo Open next month, and that dreaded wild species that seems to only be indigenous to North America... the Karen!

We've had a few hiccups trying to get the basho coverage together (don't worry, we're still covering all 15 days!), but until the first Aki episode comes out we just had to make sure everyone knew about the next upcoming US amateur tournament, the Beer City Sumo Open! We also wanted to make sure everyone knows about the ultimate radness that is the Grand Rapids Sumo Club, who are hosting this amazing tournament complete with a clay dohyo in the middle of a huge international art festival! Founded by Gabe Unick and Micah Hepler, who have both been in the amateur sumo scene for several years, GBSC is one of the clubs at the forefront of a rapidly growing Midwest sumo ichimon! Are you interested in entering the Beer City Sumo Open? There are sumo wrestlers who weigh less than 200 pounds?!? It's true! We got together with Oscar Dolan of New York Sumo Club, Nicholas Ton of Shogeki Sumo Club, and Dakota Eggert and Johnathan Flowers from Dallas Sumo Club to find out what lightweight sumo is all about, from the weird reactions of family and friends to the tips and tricks for taking down wrestlers three times their size. Lightweight sumo is way more exciting than a lot of people may realize, and we're here to prove it!

After an unscheduled hiatus to extract an infected internal organ, we're finally back! We've got a really awesome episode coming out later this week, but after the absolute pandemonium of the Nagoya basho we had to take a look at the banzuke that just came out for the upcoming Aki basho. Witness the wild tangents about furries, juggalos, and wizards as Sabrina finds out for the first time which rank each rikishi landed on in this completely unscripted, unedited, warts-and-all bonus episode!
