…Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen… And these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter it.

The oppression of the world cannot overcome the omnipotence of God!

Meaning “Yahweh remembers,” Zechariah’s name was appropriate to the purpose of his prophecies. His words brim over with redemptive hope: that God would remember and recover his promises to his people, even after the judgment of 70 years of Babylonian captivity. Through the sharing of eight visions and four messages, Zechariah encourages the people to anticipate and execute the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the temple. But ultimately the book points to the future sign of the Messiah – through whom God would not only save his people, Israel – but through whom God would save the world.

This weekend we’ll continue the start of our journey into this fascinating book which is filled with spiritual imagination. But the message, although hopeful, begins with an invitation and warning to not forsake the Lord. Join us this weekend as we unpack Zechariah Chapter 1 in a message "Down But Not Out".

In this Psalm David preaches truth to his own heart and calls upon all creation to, “Bless the Lord”. As David delights in God, he expresses spontaneous thanksgiving and unbounded praise for God’s merciful and abundant blessings. In doing so, David traces a pathway of praise and worship for us, as he invites us to join him in this discovery of unbelievable grace.  

As we consider all of the uncertainty, conflict and turmoil in our world, Psalm 110 gives us a rock-solid assurance that we have as believers. We have a risen, reigning and sovereign King, Jesus Christ, who has secured the defeat of all of his enemies. Our victorious King will one day usher in a kingdom of peace and righteousness. But this Savior, who is a King is also a forever Priest…loving and interceding for his people. And so, our King-Priest will fight for us, advocate for us and return for us when he comes in power and glory to triumph over his enemies and according to Scripture - set up his kingdom on earth.  

In this Psalm, David praises God as he observes His power in creation. David marvels at the idea that such a powerful and glorious Being would give any further thought to something as frail and limited as mankind. However, David notes the incredible responsibility and privilege given to men and women as image bearers to be overseers of God’s world.

The Lord is my light and my salvation…I will be confident.

The apostle Paul praised God constantly for the Thessalonian church. How did the Thessalonian church fill Paul with so much joy? Jesus was deeply permeating their lives, and they were modeling Christ to the world around them. If we want to BE the church and not just attend church, we must also desire to be deeply permeated followers of Jesus.

Psalm 16

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;

    I have no good apart from you.”

In this Psalm of confidence, David focuses on the blessings and benefits he has experienced in knowing God. He stirs his heart to delight in God. We’ll trace these promises together and pray that God uses these truths to stir our hearts to worship God.
