We don’t deal in covenants as much as we used to. The wording and cultural understanding of covenants in the time of the prophet Samuel and the era written about in his second book would have been commonplace. As Pastor Holland will explain today, breaking a covenant doesn’t end the covenant. The covenant and the relationship it defines continue, but in a broken state. In the covenant God established with us, it can only be broken by Him, but His promise is that it never will be.
