Be the Light, Not the Drama
Preached by Pastor Michael Petillo | January 18, 2026
In this message from Ephesians 5:10–17, Pastor Michael Petillo challenges believers to live with intentional wisdom in a world growing darker and more chaotic. Drawing from Revelation 12, he reminds the church that Satan knows his time is short—and because of that, darkness is working aggressively. In contrast, believers are called to make the most of their time by living as children of light.
Pastor Michael teaches that darkness is not primarily exposed through arguments, outrage, or withdrawal from the world, but through a consistently wise life. Scripture does not call believers to avoid unbelievers, but to avoid participating in their deeds. We are meant to stay connected to the world while remaining distinct—living as salt and light rather than retreating or blending in.
True spiritual influence comes when wisdom is visible in everyday decisions: how we speak, how we respond, how we use our time, and how we handle conflict, pressure, and temptation. A life marked by wisdom persuades others that the gospel is real. As Proverbs says, “He who wins souls is wise.”
Pastor Michael explains that wisdom is not automatic—it grows through trusting God’s goodness and obeying His Word, even when it is uncomfortable or costly. Many struggle with obedience because they view God as restrictive rather than good. But true wisdom begins when we believe that God is holy, loving, and just, and that His commands lead to human flourishing. Obedience is not short-sighted—it is long-sighted faith in the One who controls what we cannot see.
As wisdom grows, it produces moral insight—the ability to see clearly what others miss. This discernment helps believers know when to speak, when to stay silent, when to be firm, and when to extend grace. In a confusing and reactive culture, moral insight allows followers of Jesus to walk with clarity instead of regret.
The message closes with a powerful reminder that God uses lives of faithful obedience over time to shine light into others’ hearts. When believers choose wisdom over drama, faithfulness over noise, and obedience over convenience, Christ’s light becomes visible—and God is glorified.
