When we see the word “world” in the New Testament, if often means humanity or society apart from God and opposed to God. (1 John 2:15-17; Rom. 12:1-2).

Why does the world system, including the "religious world," hate the Christian?

1 - We are identified with Christ (vv. 18, 20).

2 - We do not belong to the world (v. 19).

3 - The world is spiritually ignorant and blind (v. 21).

4 - The world will not be honest about its own sin (vv. 22-24; 16:1-11).

How does the Holy Spirit encourage believers when they are experiencing the hatred and opposition of the world?

He comforts us with His Presence, and that most often through the Word of God.
