Can you take a word spoken by God to someone in the Bible and claim it for yourself? Is that just their light or can it be light for you? That’s what we are looking at this morning. Many words God gave to individuals are claimed by others today, like the one to Joshua... “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Can I stand in faith on this verse for myself even though it was not spoken to me? How can I know if I should or should not? Let’s look to the Word of God for wisdom on this.

In our reading this week there was a parable of Jesus that doesn’t seem to come up too often, but as we were reading together this week it jumped out at me that it has much to do with light and darkness. The last time we looked at this parable was about 4 years ago, so we are certainly due to look at it again. Not only do we learn about light and darkness, we also see more of what God considers faithfulness to be. At the end we will ask the question “Do you suppose?”

When we are given light to walk in for our life the enemy will try and bring in another light; one that will change our walk and lead us down a destructive path. We look at the life of a very faithful man who received a great promise if only he would walk in the light of that promise. He didn't and went after a different light. A continuation of last Sunday's look at the parable of covering the light in Luke 8, we see that covering the light we have received is easier and more common than we may think. The results of covering this light can be the cause of many of our struggles!

When you see what Jesus is teaching in this parable you will understand more about how His light helps you to receive what you are believing for and what you are doing for the kingdom.
