“The Enemy Is Dead... So Why Am I Still Fighting?”

Scripture: Esther 8

In Esther 7, Haman was defeated. The enemy of God's people was gone.

But there was still a problem.

The decree calling for the destruction of the Jews remained in effect.

The enemy was dead, but the battle wasn't over.

Esther 8 reminds us of an important truth for every believer: just because a victory has been won doesn't mean the struggle disappears overnight. Sometimes God doesn't remove the battle immediately, but He gives us a new hope, a new future, and the power to stand in the middle of it.

This chapter becomes a beautiful picture of the Gospel itself. Humanity was under the decree of sin and death, but through Jesus Christ, God issued a new decree of grace, forgiveness, and eternal life.

Today's Reminder

The first decree in Esther brought death.

The second decree brought hope.

The first decree in humanity's story is that sin brings judgment.

The second decree is the Gospel.

Jesus stepped into history, died on the cross, rose from the grave, and made a way for sinners to be forgiven and reconciled to God.

Many believers continue living as though the war has not already been won.

We carry guilt Christ has already paid for.

We live in fear when God has given us promises.

We allow yesterday's failures to rob us of today's joy.

Esther 8 reminds us that while battles may still come, everything changes when hope arrives.

You do not have to wait until every problem is solved before trusting God's promises.

You do not have to wait until every battle is finished before experiencing God's peace.

And you do not have to wait until your circumstances improve before living with joy.

Because your hope is not found in perfect circumstances.

Your hope is found in a perfect Savior.

“When Jesus Shows Up”

Authority, Purpose, and Presence

Many believers think of Jesus as only appearing in the New Testament. But the Bible reveals a much bigger story.

Long before Bethlehem.

Long before the cross.

Long before the empty tomb.

Jesus was already working, revealing Himself, and transforming lives throughout the Old Testament.

In this powerful study, Robert Tavares explores three incredible appearances of Christ before His incarnation: Jacob wrestling with God, Joshua meeting the Commander of the Lord's Army, and Gideon's encounter with the Angel of the Lord.

Today's Reminder

Jacob wrestled with God.

Joshua faced an impossible battle.

Gideon believed he was too weak and insignificant.

Yet in every situation, Jesus showed up.

Jacob discovered that winning meant surrendering.

Joshua discovered that the question was never whether God was on his side, but whether he was on God's side.

Gideon discovered that God's strength is made perfect in weakness.

How often do we approach God with our own plans?

"Lord, bless what I want."

"Lord, do it my way."

"Lord, fix my circumstances."

But Jesus calls us to something deeper:

Surrender.

When we stop resisting His authority, embrace His purpose, and trust His presence, God begins to accomplish things in and through our lives that we could never achieve on our own.

Three Life-Changing Encounters

1. Jacob Wrestling with God (Genesis 32)

Jacob learned that the greatest battle wasn't with Esau. It was with his own self-reliance. Real blessing came only after total surrender.

2. Joshua Meets the Commander (Joshua 5-6)

Joshua learned that victory belongs to God. Before the walls of Jericho could fall, Joshua had to submit himself to God's leadership.

3. Gideon and the Angel of the Lord (Judges 6)

Gideon saw weakness. God saw a mighty warrior. God delights in using unlikely people who are willing to trust Him.

“The Trap You Set”

Scripture: Esther 7:1-10

Haman had everything: power, influence, wealth, and position. As the second most powerful man in the Persian Empire, he believed he was untouchable. He manipulated the king, secured a decree against the Jewish people, and even built gallows for the man he hated most: Mordecai.

But Haman forgot one crucial truth:

God was still in control.

In Esther 7, Queen Esther finally reveals her identity and exposes Haman's wicked plot. The man who thought he controlled the future suddenly discovers that God had been working behind the scenes all along.

The trap Haman built for someone else became the very instrument of his own destruction.

This chapter reminds us that pride, bitterness, hidden sin, and selfish ambition always lead somewhere. We reap what we sow. Yet it also reminds us that God's justice is certain, His mercy is available, and His purposes cannot be stopped.

Haman thought he was winning.

We justify pride.

We hold onto resentment.

Yet God sees everything.

The lesson of Esther 7 is not merely that Haman fell.

The lesson is that every believer must ask:

“How much Haman is in me?”

Do I resent others?

Do I struggle to forgive?

Do I secretly desire revenge?

Do I believe my success comes from me instead of God?

The answer isn't condemnation.

The answer is repentance.

Because the same God who judges pride also offers grace to the humble.

The Christophanies of Christ – Part 1

Scripture: John 1:1-18, Genesis 16, Genesis 18, Genesis 22

Many Christians think of Jesus as arriving on the pages of Scripture in Bethlehem.

But what if Jesus has been revealing Himself since Genesis?

In this powerful study, Robert Tavares explores the biblical doctrine of Christophanies: the pre-incarnate appearances of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. Before the manger, before the cross, and before the empty tomb, Jesus was already actively involved in God's plan of redemption.

Beginning in John 1, we discover that Jesus is the eternal Word who has always existed. He was with God in the beginning, He is God, and through Him all things were created. This foundational truth helps us recognize Christ's appearances throughout the Old Testament.

Jesus saw her.

When Abraham stood on Mount Moriah facing an impossible act of obedience...

Jesus provided the sacrifice.

The message is the same for us today.

God sees you.

God knows your circumstances.

God hears your prayers.

God remembers His promises.

And God is still working even when you cannot see what He is doing.

The Jesus who walked with His people in Genesis is the same Jesus who walks with His people today.

He has not changed.

He has not abandoned His promises.

And He has not forgotten you.

Three Christophanies Examined

1. Jesus Appears to Hagar (Genesis 16)

In her moment of rejection, despair, and uncertainty, Hagar encounters the Angel of the Lord and discovers that God sees her suffering and has a plan for her future.

2. Jesus Appears to Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 18)

God reaffirms His promise and reminds Abraham and Sarah that nothing is too hard for the Lord, even when circumstances seem impossible.

3. Jesus Appears to Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22)

At the moment of greatest testing, God provides and demonstrates that faith must be accompanied by obedience.

Today's Challenge

Spend time looking for Jesus throughout all of Scripture.

Don't limit Him to the Gospels.

Don't limit Him to the manger.

Don't limit Him to the cross.

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells one story:

Jesus Christ is Lord.

And just as He revealed Himself to Hagar, Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, He desires to reveal Himself to you today.

Esther 6 reminds us that God does not have to announce what He is doing in order to be doing it.

Your job is faithfulness.

God's job is the outcome.

Keep praying.

Keep serving.

Keep trusting.

Keep obeying.

What Is God Doing While You Wait?

Scripture: Esther 5:1-14

Have you ever known exactly what God wanted you to do, yet felt like the timing wasn't right?

Esther found herself in precisely that situation.

After three days of fasting and prayer, Esther courageously walked into the king's court, risking her life to save her people. She had prepared. She had prayed. She had committed herself fully to God's purpose.

The king extended the golden scepter.

The door was open.

The opportunity had arrived.

Yet surprisingly, Esther didn't immediately make her request. Twice the king asked what she wanted. Twice Esther waited.

Why?

Because sometimes faith means moving forward.

And sometimes faith means waiting for God's perfect timing.

What Esther couldn't see was that while she was waiting, God was working behind the scenes, arranging circumstances that would change everything.

Today's Reminder

Esther couldn't control the king.

She couldn't control the scepter.

She couldn't control the outcome.

She could only control her obedience.

Sometimes that's exactly where God calls us to live.

There comes a point when you've prayed.

You've prepared.

You've sought wise counsel.

You've searched the Scriptures.

And then you simply trust God with what only He can do.

But there's another challenge:

Sometimes God says, "Not yet."

And waiting can be just as difficult as stepping out in faith.

The danger is assuming that because we don't see movement, nothing is happening.

But Esther chapter 5 reminds us:

While You Are Waiting, God Is Working.

Esther couldn't see what God was preparing.

Mordecai couldn't see it.

Haman certainly couldn't see it.

But God was arranging every detail perfectly.

Three Powerful Lessons from Esther 5

1. Courage Takes the First Step

Esther entered the king's court despite the risk.

Faith does what God asks us to do and trusts God with the results.

2. While You Are Waiting, God Is Working

Sometimes God's answer is not "No."

Sometimes it's simply:

"Not yet."

God's timing is often accomplishing things we cannot see.

3. Pride and Bitterness Are Dangerous

Haman had wealth, power, influence, and privilege.

Yet one man robbed him of all his joy.

Bitterness magnified the one thing wrong in his life until he lost sight of everything that was right.

Questions for Reflection

• Is God calling me to GO, but I've been calling fear "patience"?

• Is God calling me to WAIT, but I'm trying to force my own timing?

• Is there a "Mordecai" in my life that I'm allowing to steal my joy?

• Have pride or bitterness taken root in my heart?

• Am I trusting God's timing as much as I trust His promises?

“For Such a Time as This”

Scripture: Esther 4:12-17

Esther was an orphan turned queen.

Mordecai was a faithful servant burdened by the coming destruction of his people.

Haman had convinced King Xerxes to issue a decree that would result in the annihilation of every Jew in the Persian Empire.

And in that moment of crisis, Mordecai challenged Esther with one of the most powerful questions in all of Scripture:

"Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

What if your current job isn't accidental?

What if your neighborhood isn't accidental?

What if your relationships aren't accidental?

What if God has positioned you exactly where you are for a divine purpose?

Esther 4 reminds us that God places His people strategically so they can impact the lives of others for His glory.

Today's Reminder

Mordecai's heart was broken because people he loved were facing destruction.

He couldn't ignore it.

He couldn't pretend it wasn't happening.

He couldn't continue with life as normal.

The question for us is simple:

Do our hearts break for the things that break the heart of God?

We get upset over politics.

We get upset over finances.

We get upset over daily inconveniences.

But when was the last time we wept over someone who doesn't know Jesus?

God didn't place you where you are by accident.

You're not "just" a teacher.

You're not "just" a business owner.

You're not "just" a mechanic.

You're not "just" a parent.

You're an ambassador for Christ exactly where God has placed you.

Like Esther, you may be standing in a position today that God intends to use for His purposes tomorrow.

Three Questions from Esther 4

1. Does Your Heart Break for Lost People?

Who in your life needs Jesus?

A child?

A parent?

A coworker?

A friend?

A neighbor?

Ask God to give you His heart for them.

2. Do You Recognize Where God Has Positioned You?

Maybe you're not stuck.

Maybe you're stationed.

Perhaps God has strategically placed you exactly where you are because someone around you needs to hear the Gospel from you.

3. Will You Act When Your Moment Comes?

Esther could have remained silent.

Instead, she chose courage.

She chose obedience.

She chose faith.

And God used her to save a nation.

Today's Challenge

Stop asking:

"Why am I here?"

Start asking:

"God, what do You want to do through me while I'm here?"

Because your family is a mission field.

Your workplace is a mission field.

Your community is a mission field.

And God may have placed you exactly where you are...

For Such a Time as This.

“Jesus Teaches 12 Principles of Prayer – Part 1”

Scripture: Luke 11:1–13

One day, after watching Jesus pray, His disciples made a simple request:

“Lord, teach us to pray.”

There was something different about the way Jesus prayed. His prayers weren't mechanical. They weren't performances. They weren't religious routines. They were real, personal, intimate conversations with His Heavenly Father.

In Luke 11, Jesus responds by teaching His disciples how to approach God in prayer. And throughout the Gospels, Jesus not only taught prayer, He modeled it. He prayed before major decisions, in times of joy, during suffering, after victories, and even while dying on the cross.

This message explores the first six foundational principles of prayer that emerge from Jesus' teaching and example throughout Scripture.

Our relationship with God and our relationships with others are connected. Jesus repeatedly taught that a forgiving heart is essential to a healthy prayer life.

Today's Reminder

Prayer is not a formula.

Prayer is not a performance.

Prayer is not a religious exercise.

Prayer is a relationship.

The disciples did not ask Jesus, "Teach us a better prayer technique."

They asked:

"Lord, teach us to pray."

And perhaps that remains our greatest need today.

Not to learn another formula.

Not to master another method.

Not to find a secret technique.

But simply to spend time talking with our Heavenly Father.

God is not looking for perfect words.

He is looking for surrendered hearts.

Questions for Reflection

Is my prayer life sincere or performative?

Do I spend more time asking for my will or seeking God's will?

Am I praying persistently or giving up too easily?

Do I truly believe God hears my prayers?

Is there someone I need to forgive?

Am I treating prayer as a relationship or a ritual?

Today's Challenge

This week, don't focus on praying perfectly.

Focus on praying consistently.

Talk to God honestly.

Bring your joys.

Bring your struggles.

Bring your questions.

Bring your fears.

And remember:

God would rather hear an honest prayer from your heart than a perfect prayer from your lips.

Because prayer has never been about performance.

It's always been about relationship.

“When Evil Rises, God Is Still in Control”

Scripture: Esther 3:1–15

For four years, everything seemed quiet.

Esther was queen.

Mordecai sat at the king's gate.

Life appeared stable.

But behind the scenes, God had been positioning people before they even knew why they were being positioned. Then chapter 3 arrives and everything changes.

Haman enters the story.

A decree is issued.

An entire nation receives a death sentence.

And from a human perspective, it looks like evil is winning.

But Esther 3 reminds us of a powerful truth:

God never panics.

The God who knew Haman was coming had already placed Esther in the palace.

The crisis was new to the people.

It was not new to God.

Haman thought he was in control.

The law was sealed.

The city was confused.

But God was not confused.

Haman rolled the dice.

God controlled the calendar.

Haman had the king's ring.

God still had the throne.

Haman had a plan.

God already had Esther in position.

How often do we forget that?

When the diagnosis comes.

When the job disappears.

When the relationship changes.

When finances get tight.

When evil seems to be winning.

God is not confused.

God is not worried.

God is not pacing heaven trying to figure out what to do next.

He is already there.

Already working.

Already preparing what comes next.

Five Truths from Esther 3

#1 What I Refuse to Kill Can Come Back to Control Me

Compromise today can become a crisis tomorrow.

#2 I Must Stand for God Even When I Stand Alone

Popularity should never replace obedience.

#3 Wounded Pride Can Make a Small Offense a Big Problem

Unchecked pride magnifies conflict and fuels destruction.

#4 What Looks Like Chance Is Still Under God's Control

Nothing catches God by surprise.

#5 God Is Never Threatened by What Threatens Me

What terrifies us never intimidates God.

Today's Challenge

Ask yourself:

• What do I need to surrender to God?

• Where am I compromising?

• Where do I need to stand firm?

• What pride needs to die?

• Who has God positioned me to reach?

Remember:

Last week we learned:

"I Have Been Positioned for a Purpose."

This week we learn:

"When Evil Rises, God Is Still in Control."

The same God who positioned Esther before the crisis is still positioning His people today.

The question is:

Will we trust Him enough to say YES when He calls?

Esther chapter 2 reminds us that God is often working long before we understand what He's doing. While Esther thought she was simply another young woman caught in the king's search for a queen, God was quietly positioning her to save an entire nation. [Esther Cha...her Chosen | Word]

Long before the crisis arrived, God had already positioned the solution.

Before Haman's plot.

Before the danger.

Before anyone knew what was coming.

While Esther was simply living her life, God was writing history.

Maybe your neighborhood isn't accidental.

Maybe your relationships aren't accidental.

"God, why am I here?"

The better question is:

"God, what do You want to do through me while I'm here?"

Stop comparing your calling to someone else's gifts.

Every opportunity.

"What are You preparing me to do?"
