A few weeks ago when we began our study in 1 Peter I felt the Lord pointing me to this book to study because there are many parallels between the time in around 64 A.D. when Peter penned the books of 1 and 2 Peter and today, 2020 and the world we are now living in.

We name our children after the apostles, Matthew,
Mark, Luke and John and we name our dogs,
Cesars, Nero, Julis, Hercules, Apollo, and Atlas.

The book of Proverbs teaches us about True Wisdom. Is there such a thing as false wisdom? The
Bible says yes.

We are studying the book of Proverbs. Last week we talked about the Power of our Tongue. As we continue our study this morning in the book of Proverbs we are looking at the “Power of People” and the impact our friendships have in our life. I want to look with you at three things this morning…

Nothing will make you or break you in this life like the relationships you have.

You might look at it like this. If you get the right friends it will set you up for success in every area of life that matters. Get your friends wrong and you will pay for it for years to come.

We're looking at the book of Proverbs. And Proverbs chapter 6 and 24 deal with this, though there are many other scriptures that deal with it.

In the book of Proverbs, there are 19 different verses that deal with the issue of laziness.

Written mostly by Solomon, Remember our definition of a Proverb. “A pithy statement that packs a powerful punch.”

Short sayings based on long experience. They are also known as aphorisms, axioms, and epigrams.

In the book of Proverbs Solomon has a lot to say about what we say.

Heres an interesting fact: the words, tongue, mouth, lips, and words occur almost 150 times in Proverbs.

On average, a reference to speech appears 5 times in each of the 31 chapters.

Solomon often times uses a contrastive couplet when speaking of the wise and the foolish. Both types of people reveal themselves to others by how they use their tongues.

The point is this… Our tongues are powerful.

We can draw people to God by our words and lifestyle
or we can draw people away from God by our words and lifestyle.

A couple of weeks ago we were reading in Proverbs 5 and I was sharing with you that in Proverbs 5-7 Solomon is instructing his son on the topic of “sex” and specifically dealing with temptation and adultery. I had titled the message, “why sex sins are worse than other sins” and invited you to read Proverbs chapters 5-7 and 1 Corinthians 6. This morning I wanted to pick up the message in 1 Corinthians 6. But before we go there let me have your attention…

So as to not lose or confuse you with the title of this message let me first begin by saying, “Sex sins are worse than other sins because sex sins do more damage than other sins.”

“Sex sins are not harder for God to forgive than any other sin.”

Before we read this text this morning and pray I realize this topic of human sexuality can be very uncomfortable for some for a number of reasons. Obviously the Lord desires that we do speak about the subject for the simple fact that it is addressed within the pages of scripture frequently. It is best to be direct to avoid confusion.
