Key Thoughts:
All Things New: Renew My Mind
Romans 12:1-8 – I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Gifts of Grace
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
I. ALL THINGS NEW TRANSFORM THE WAY YOU THINK
Romans 12:2 - “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
Your feelings don’t shape your life; your beliefs do.
II. ALL THINGS NEW TRANSFORM YOUR APPROACH TO SIN
Romans 7:22-23 – For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Whatever gets your attention, gets you.
Romans 8:6 – Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever] AMP
III. ALL THINGS NEW TRANSFORM YOUR THOUGHTS
Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Psalm 42:11 – Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
3 DAILY RHYTHMS FOR A HEALTHY MIND
1. FEED YOUR MIND WITH TRUTH
Matthew 4:4 – “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Psalm 55:17 & 22 – Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice…. 22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
2. FREE YOUR MIND FROM DESTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS
Romans 8:5 – For those who are living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [which gratify the body], but those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose]. AMP
You are going to live what you believe.
A stronghold in your life will always be tied back to a lie you believe….value, belief, wound, abuse, or neglect.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 - “Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. (Our weapons) have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish any argument and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it OBEDIENT to Christ.”
3. FOCUS YOUR MIND ON THE RIGHT THINGS
Isaiah 26:3-4 – You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
How does Temptation Work?
James 1:14-15 – But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed, and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). 15 Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death.
1 John 3:4-6 – Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6 No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
