For the Christian, death always results in life.The battle for remaining dead to sin is primarily a battle for a minds.You can't just resist negative thoughts or lies, you must replace them with truth. Think on blessings, Scripture, & theology. And, as Augustine and his former mistress teach us, it works!

Sanctification is our longest word & the word most likely to be a voted a 'turn off' for reading the Bible any further.Yet Sanctification is crucial for living because it is God's grandest, most important project in us while we're still living. What's the process of sanctification look like? Botanical.How are we sanctified? Through Slavery.Through sanctification, we become who we are.

Think about Faith in a whole new way -- as Holy Discontentment. It's the faith of Abraham as described in Romans 4: 13-25. And, like Abraham, such a discontented faith can aid us in carrying on as we wait on God to fulfill His promises.

Another fancy, Big Word shows up in our Bibles called "Justification." And understanding it matters for how we live.In fact, as Pastor Ryan leads us through the first half of Romans 4, Justification satisfies one of our greatest longings & combats one of our greatest enemies.

Out there exist a lot of 'caricatures' of the Christian faith -- Christianity as a weapon; Christianity Oprah Winfrey-style; Christianity as a big moralistic downer; Christianity as a comforting but impotent teddy bear. But perhaps no caricature is more debilitating than the one one propogated by many Christians themselves -- the belief that the gospel of grace is only for salvation, but once you're saved it's time to move on & DO the Christian life.Piggy-backing off last week, Pastor Ryan explains how grace is not only crucial for salvation but also for everyday living.

The Apostle Paul recognized that he was sharing something that seemed too good to be true -- even to the new converts and interested seekers of his day. The Book of Romans mentions “Wrath” a dozen times – more than any other book in the New Testament (even ‘end-of-days’ Revelation). Use the Law or else the Law will use you. More than anything, this ominous fact is why knowing & applying God's "Archaic" Law to our lives really matters. Attached is the document mentioned in the sermon. Would encourage anyone to use it to meditate on God's Law this week, in order to first see your inability & then to rely fully on Jesus for forgiveness -- which is the only way one can actually begin living out God's Law.
