Melbourne and parts of Victoria have copped a drenching overnight as major thunderstorms lashed the State. The city received 47 millimetres of rain while strong winds caused trees to fall and crush cars. Lightning strikes also put a temporary halt to the MCG clash between Geelong and Hawthorn yesterday. And the Stawell Gift finals were delayed as the track turned into a pool after torrential rain.

If you're a fan of the night sky, then this might be for you. The rare 'Devil Comet' will become visible in Australian skies this month for the first time in 70 years. Astronomers say the best time to observe it will be before Sunrise in the early hours of Monday 22nd April. A 51-year-old South Australian man will face court following a double fatal crash in Penola in the state's south-east. A 62-year-old man and 54-year-old from Suttontown in Mount Gambier died at the scene. Flowers have been left overnight at the crash scene on the Riddoch Highway.
