The most basic element of a church is that we are a group of individuals who have been saved by grace through faith and are now unashamed of Jesus Christ and His message. Sadly, many modern churches are very confused on shame. What they should be ashamed of, they are proud, and what they shouldn't be ashamed of, they are ashamed. It is time to restore the biblical balance in this first part of Pastor Scott's sermon series: "Back to the Basics"

After talking to the Ephesians about the Lord, Paul talks to the Lord about the Ephesians. What is Paul's prayer request? That the church he planted in Ephesus really believe that they have the power that God has given them. Jesus' words reveal to us what this power is: "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (JN 8:32). Do you know the truth and has it set you free?

Last time in Ephesians we began singing the sweet song of salvation. Though God chose outside time, there was a point in time when the price was paid to redeem all mankind so all could have the opportunity to choose God. Ephesians 1:7-10

Do you know the awesome truth that God chose His followers before time ever began? That truth is an incredible blessing to us, but it in no way shirks our responsibility to choose to follow Him as our Lord and Savior within this created thing called time. "The Book of Ephesians has been commonly called “the Alps of the New Testament,” for the reader ascends into the heavenlies in this glorious Epistle—and the view is breathtaking indeed. WHY? Of the six chapters, the first three are about the heavenly calling of the church and are doctrinal. The last three are about the earthly conduct of the church which is very practical. You see, the church has a Head. The Head of the church is Christ, and He is in heaven. We are identified with Him. But the feet of the church are down here on earth. Paul won’t leave us sitting up there in the heavenlies; he says, “Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called” (Eph. 4:1). In other words, Christian, it’s nice to sit up there in the heavenlies and boast of your position in Christ, but, for goodness’ sake, get down and start walking. " J Vernon McGee

Is it possible that, when you were saved, you made a false declaration that will one day lead to a damning destination?

In Matthew 5-7 you will see a lot of red words. Red words in the Bible. NOW, the red words are just as inspired as the black words are. The red words remind us that God in the flesh uttered these words. These are coming directly from Him. Don't hear me saying them. Imagine Jesus uttering them. We will be at the end of Matthew 7 today.

I want to start with a question. Who Goes to church? According to ABC News: In America, Sixty percent of people age 65 and older report attending religious services at least once a week; among 18 to 30-year-olds, just 28 percent go that often. There are other factors. Nearly half of Southerners attend services weekly, substantially more than elsewhere. Forty-four percent of women go weekly, compared to 32 percent of men. 83 percent of adults in this country (say they) are Christians. Forty-six percent of Protestants attend church at least weekly, peaking at 52 percent of Baptists. Just over two-thirds of Baptists are in the South, far more than elsewhere (the Midwest is next, at just 17 percent). This is why we are called the Bible Belt. Now that is the demographics of who goes to church. Now I want you to consider what kind of people go to church? Most would say Good people. Is that true? Find out in this sermon...

A contradiction is a situation or ideas in opposition to one another. Declaring publicly that you are an environmentalist but never remembering to take out the recycling is an example of a contradiction or to say "the gentle torturer," or "a snowy summer's day." A person can also express a contradiction, like the person who professes atheism, yet goes to church every Sunday.Wouldn't it be a contradiction to profess a belief in God, yet not go to church too? People hear what they want to hear. It is selective Hearing. Jesus said "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." Listen and learn the greatest contradiction in Christianity!
