When we ask for daily bread, we are asking to remain dependent on him for our provision, even when we seem to have enough!

When we pray for God's will to be done, we are really asking him to win the fight for our hearts and direct our actions, first! We are inviting him to transform us into the kind of willing servants and messengers he enjoys in his own, heavenly throne room. It's an earth-altering and powerful thing to request! 

Just as a gardener prunes a tree to produce more fruit, God prunes our desires through his will. If we give half our heart to Jesus, and half our heart to the world, we will not fully attain either. Our branch cannot be half connected to the vine, or it will die.

This is essential; we need to remember who we are, who God is, how he sees us, and what the basis is for asking him with confidence of an answer. Jesus' approach to these tasks is as powerful as it is pure: approach his Father as "our Father." Christ assures us that God is "in heaven" and yet intimately observing us, loving us, and providing for us as "our Father;" this changes everything!
