One of the most important parts of authenticity is humility. This is also where our culture's definition of authenticity breaks down the quickest. The world tells us that we will be most fulfilled when others finally acknowledge our importance and value. However, Scripture tells us that we will be most content and useful when we recognize that we aren't really that big a deal. 

Continuing in our series, Get Real, we look at the book of James, Chapter 3, where we hear strong words about our speech. Speech is one of the deepest marks of God's image in us, and how we use this gift directly effects how real or how false we are. Our tongues can be used to speak life, or speak death. The most powerful tool in your shed won't accomplish anything if it stays unplugged and on the shelf. We live in a culture where people routinely manipulate their public image to hide uncomfortable truths about themselves. Essentially, real integrity and fidelity are rare. While often accused of being the worst of all fakes, Christians are called and equipped to be real. The first step is to take responsibility. 

In the final week of our series, "Encounters With Christ," we take a look at 3 powerful encounters with Jesus after his resurrection. What happens when real people meet the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ? 

We see in John 12 that Mary wanted to show Jesus that she was all-in and willing to serve him with everything she has. Her adoration and worship is a picture of an ideal disciple of Jesus, and it helped prepare the way for Jesus' journey to the cross. We are called to follow her example.

If you've been in the dark for some time and then someone turns on the light, it can be quite a jolting experience. As we continue our series, Encounters With Christ, we explore a blind man's encounter with Jesus. What will his response be when he encounters the Light of the world? What can we glean from his response as followers of Jesus? Watch Pastor Cody Statema's message, "Free To See," as we look at John 9.

A common theme among encounters with Jesus in Scripture is Jesus' unflinching willingness to cut to the heart of the issue. In this weeks passage, Jesus challenges a paralytic about his desire to be healed. As human as we are, we are prone to apathy and the strange comfort we find in being stuck where we are. Yet, Jesus loves us enough to heal us fully!
