This month was Earthion, from Yuzo Koshiro and Ancient. This is a modern-developed 16 bit game, particularly for the Sega Genesis (releasing next year on that platform, but here and now on Steam, Xbox, PS5, Switch, etc.).
We talk a bit about Yuzo Koshiro’s legacy and a long career in making games, what the genre has meant to us and our experience with it, this being our first sidescrolling shoot em’ up, as well as the mechanics and systems that work well here to respect the player’s time and also introduce a more modern audience a kind of game and experience that has been around for a long, long time (in 70’s and 80’s arcades, down into home consoles, and still going).
Check out the liner notes for some historical links, as well as the usual ephemera.
And watch out in December and January for some writing we’ve been working on to be posted, as well as for January’s podcast on Baldur’s Gate 3.
Happy Holidays and New Year!
