This week on Super Film Bros we look back at the 2011 Kevin Smith flick Red State starring Michael Parks and John Goodman.After three teenagers meet up with a woman online anticipating sex with her, they shortly realize it’s a trap and find themselves at the mercy of a lunatic preacher and his congregation that want them to burn in hell for having sinned so egregiously. Needless to say all hell breaks loose between the victims, congretation and the ATF.It’s definitely not the normal variety that Kevin Smith is known for seeing he has mostly put out dick and fart joke type movies such as Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back and so on so forth. He flexes his chops at directing this thrill filled and suspenseful ride of an interesting film.So make sure and say your prayers and check it out and listen!

Enough said.We’re back at it film fans as we make progess through our back log of bonus episodes and on this one we look at Hobo With a Shotgun starring Rutger Hauer.The premise doesn’t get much simpler than this, a hobo (Hauer) comes to town which is overrun by corrupt cops, drugs, and violence all thanks to the kingpin of the city The Drake. The hobo has had enough of the filth around him and decides to clean up the streets by dispensing justice one shell at a time….from his shotgun of course.So kick back and pop a shell or two into the ol' pump action and have a listen to what we think of this movie (especially Wade).

This week on Super Film Bros we look back at the 2009 drama Brothers starring Toby Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Natalie Portman.Shortly after Tommy (Gyllenhaal) is released from prison his brother Sam (Maguire) leaves for Afghanistan, after being shot down and presumed dead Tommy steps in to help out his big brothers wife (Portman) and his two young daughters. Sam gets rescued and is brought home only to deal with the trauma of being tortured and the endeavor of settling back into his life.The movie does a great job of portraying the real life struggles in the life of an active military family along with the very real mental battle of post-traumatic stress. A superb performance given by Maguire and the rest of the cast. Jim Sheridan also does very well directing this movie and is beautifully shot.It’s well worth the watch so you can catch even just a small glimpse of what families have to go through each day as the men and women of our military serve to protect our country.Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving.

Bring on the vodka! Well, at least in small amounts so you’re not too smashed to listen.This week we watch and review 2007s Eastern Promises starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. After a young woman comes in with birth complications a nurse (Watts) delivers her baby and finds a mysterious diary among the woman’s things after she passes away from complications of the birth. Once she has the Russian text in the diary translated she’s sucked into a whirlwind of Russian mafia ties. All the while Nikolai (Mortensen) is trying to keep her away from him and his boss while he rises through the ranks of the crime family he works for.The movie is not your typical crime syndicate thriller but it definitely has plenty to offer in the realm of organized crime. I mean it gets about as real as can be when the fight in the bath house ensues, not to mention all of the other violence along the way.Grab a bottle of Russia’s best and have a listen, das vadanya.

Surf’s up brah! Little hand says it’s time to rock n’ roll!First up as always we sting you with our Weekly Hornet news segment, and then later we take a look back at the 1991 cult classic film Point Break starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty and Gary Busey directed by Kathryn Bigelow.Reeves stars as rookie FBI special agent Johnny Utah who has just been assigned to the bureau’s bank robbery division in Los Angeles. Partnered up with veteran agent Angelo Pappas (Busey) they set out to investigate and try to apprehend the bank robbers known as the ex-presidents after their most recent robbery. The bureau has been trying to catch these guys for three years with no luck. Pappas tells Johnny his theory, which is that the ex-presidents are surfers based off of what little evidence has surfaced on the case. Sending Utah under cover as a surfer, he befriends Bodhi (Swazye) and becomes pulled into his world of adrenaline and Buddhist way of thinking all the while trying to figure out whether he’s his man or not to take down.The movie is awesome on many levels, it may be a bit dated in some ways a bit sure but as a movie that has received cult status over the years and is a testosterone fueled action flick from beginning to end. Also being Reeves first action flick, I think it was a good kick start into that genre for him. I mean without this movie do you honestly think you would’ve had The Fast and The Furious a decade later? I’ll let you digest that for a few minutes, however I digress.Settle in with your headphones, TWO meatball subs, and find your inner Zen as you wax up your board for the ultimate ride of an episode!

In a land far away where demons and gods exist, one man tears across the land on his trusty elk to restore peace.Along with our Weekly Hornet news report that is filled with juicy nectar, this week we venture out of the norm as we watch and review our FIRST anime film picked by Jose, the 1997 film Princess Mononoke.After being attacked and injured by a demon Ashitaka goes on a quest to hopefully find a cure before being consumed by the evil curse. During said quest he comes across a war between forest gods and an iron mining colony. Being the person he is, he just wants to help bring peace to both sides instead of having so much hatred in the world.Overall the movie is great on many levels. Visually it looks amazing, there’s so much detail as you watch it’s just pure joy for your eyes. The directing is superb as well by Hayao Miyazaki who also wrote a wonderful story that just flows like a river. Finally with all the voice acting talent in this movie, it all comes together in a wonderful symphony.Ready your sword, draw your bow and keep your powder dry for this episode and go have a listen!

If you go out in to the mist, you might not come back. However if you listen to our show, you will…hopefully.We’re back at it again super film fans and this week we look back at the 2007 Stephen King suspense horror film The Mist starring Thomas Jane. After an intense storm rolls through the small town of Bridgton, Maine knocking out power in some areas and causing property damage to the residents, a mysterious mist rolls in from the mountains blanketing the entire town. Usually not a big deal except for what lies within the mist, what lies are creatures not of our world. While people are trapped inside a grocery store they try to figure out what’s going on and how to survive, not only from the monsters outside, but also from the monsters inside.The movie embraces such great acting from the entire cast and Thomas Jane does such a good job taking the lead in this movie. Also praise goes to director Frank Darabont (The Green Mile) who also adapted Kings novel for the screen writes in such suspense and horror that even King himself was kind of terrified.Sit back and enjoy as we talk about this movie as well as the crazy ending, just remember to have enough bullets when out in the mist, just saying.

Throw on your headphones and prepare to be judged! That’s right film fans, straight off the transport from the cursed earth is a new episode for you to listen to.We kick off 2018 with another ‘VS.’ episode as we hit you with a double whammy of movies. First up we have the 1995 over the top film Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, later on we talk about the 2012 gritty violent action flick Dredd starring Karl Urban. I hope you hotshots are ready for the rapid fire of hilarity we bring to the table with this one.These movies are among the simplest of formulas of Hollywood action, made even simpler given the source material of these movies being based off of the graphic novel of the same name. When law has collapsed in the dystopian future, to keep order among the chaos in our mega cities that are crushing under their own weight of being over populated, we rely on the enforcement of the individual men and women from the Hall of Justice. They are juries, executioners, judges.With the first rendition of Judge Dredd portrayed by Stallone, I mean what good can you say about it when he REMOVES his helmet for a majority of the movie! Also in stupendous fashion Stallone over acts the hell out of the role while screaming any chance he can about THE LAW! However, it was a time when Hollywood was experimenting with comic book movies, while some fared well and others didn’t. After almost two decades, we finally got the portrayal many fans had wanted. Karl Urban snugged into that iconic helmet and looked damn fine with it on, and the best part is that the helmet STAYED on the whole movie! With very little emotion and a rugged scowl he did an amazing job bringing the essence of Dredd to the screen. Both movies make for an interesting debate among the bros as well as our very special guest that sat in on the shenanigans for this one.Grab your law givers and strap on your tactical gear, but NOT your Versace uniform so you can listen to us while out on patrol as you carry out your own brand of justice. It’s judgement time.

*SPOILER ALERT* In a world, where elves are rich and powerful, orcs are thugs and fairies…well pretty much just annoy humans and are seen as tiny pests that like to eat out of bird feeders but can easily be bested by a household broom. That’s right folks we take a look at the newly released 2017 Netflix original film Bright directed by David Ayer (End of Watch, Suicide Squad) starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. In an alternate present day of Los Angeles where humans live among fairies, orcs as well as elves, LAPD officer Ward (Smith) is back on the streets with the departments first orc race hire Nick Jakoby (Edgerton), after recovering from a gunshot wound he endured in the line of duty. After responding to a disturbance call Ward and Jakoby end up in a whirlwind of magic and chaos during which they encounter an elf named Tikka. Tikka has left the inferni which is a secret society whose mission is to return the dark lord to reign hell on earth, she also has the gift of being a “Bright” which are the only ones and few among the earth that can use a magic wand make your wildest dreams and fantasy a reality, or simply bring doom and despair to anyone who stands in your way. Bright is a unique film experience overall, while it obviously has its core formula of being a buddy cop movie it also has the fantasy element set in present day which is something not totally at the fore front of Hollywood’s radar in movies. Sure, you have vampires and movie monsters, but not too much of characters written in folklore. The movie can be predictable at some points, while others are stereotypical of your normal action flick. On the flip side of the coin you have a present day reality with many fantasy elements that’s very creative in its writing and dialogue which makes for an interesting blend on screen. So kick back and enjoy super film fans, it sure will be a bumpy and magic filled ride.

We are the night! By that I mean we are three guys that just happen to review movies usually at night for your listening pleasure.This week as we continue our Merry F!@#ing Xmas theme of jolly episodes, we review the 1992 super hero flick, Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito directed by Tim Burton. In this outing the caped crusader is back as he takes on The Penguin and Catwoman as they wreak havoc on the city of Gotham during the holiday season all the while Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) is doing is own evil bidding in the city.Is this a holiday film you may ask? Of course it is! I mean there’s snow on the ground, they light up a giant Christmas tree in Gotham Square, people have presents and people are wishing one another happy holidays. For a sequel, and for a superhero sequel to boot, the movie does a wonderful job on many levels. You get to see the origins of not just one but TWO coveted villains of Batman lore with the bonus of seeing them very well portrayed on the big screen. Next up the story is well written to where it’s not drawn out and keeps you entertained from beginning to end and lastly, Keaton dons the cowl once again for a superb performance as the dark knight.Put on your rubber suit (without bat nipples), grab the batarang, and strap in to the batmobile as we go full thrust on this episode.
