Médaillée aux Jeux Olympiques, double Championne d’Europe de Taekwondo, Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite et titulaire d’un MBA, la franco-canadienne est également Championne de la Paix pour l’Organisation Internationale Peace and Sport, placée sous le Haut Patronage de S.A.S. le Prince Albert II de Monaco. 

Plus qu’une série de victoires, l’histoire de Marlene Harnois est un parcours atypique guidé par la passion et le courage. Portée par l’envie de promouvoir les valeurs de l’Olympisme et d’encourager la jeunesse dans la réalisation de leurs rêves, sa plus grande victoire est de contribuer au développement et à la paix par le sport, dans les zones affectées par la pauvreté et l’instabilité sociale.  

📌 Dans cet épisode Marlene nous parle de son parcours et des étapes qui l’ont menée à remporter une médaille aux jeux olympiques de Londres après avoir commencé le Taekwondo à l’âge de 4 ans. On parle aussi de son mental et de comment elle a forgé sa confiance en elle.

A bientôt pour un nouvel épisode de Super Women of Monaco !

Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux est la Directrice de la Mission pour la Transition Energétique de la Principauté.

Née en 1972, diplômée de Sciences politiques (Paris I Sorbonne), Annabelle Jaeger est devenue une spécialiste des sujets environnementaux.  Dans son parcours, elle a occupé des postes dans le secteur public comme dans le privé et l’associatif. Directrice du Développement à la Fondation Nicolas Hulot pendant plusieurs années, elle a notamment organisé de grandes campagnes de mobilisation des acteurs (Défi pour la terre, Pacte écologique…). En Région Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur, elle a été élue en charge des questions de biodiversité et a présidé l’Agence régionale pour l’environnement qui accompagne les communes dans leur politique de développement durable. En novembre 2015, elle est nommée Personnalité qualifiée en matière d’environnement au Conseil Economique Social et Environnemental français. 

Elle a par ailleurs été présidente de la branche France de la Fondation du Prince Albert II de Monaco.

Elle porte ainsi une large vision des enjeux de la ville durable qu’elle entend mettre pleinement à profit de la Mission pour la Transition Energétique et de la Principauté. 

·       Nous avons parlé de à quoi pourrait ressembler la vie à Monaco au cours de la transition énergétique et en particulier de comment palier aux 3 sources principales de gaz à effet de serre de la principauté : le transport routier, la dépense énergétique dans les bâtiments et le traitement des déchets

·       Dans la deuxième partie de l’épisode nous avons abordé des questions plus personnelles comme l’origine de son engagement, sa vision de l’écologie et de la complexité du sujet. 

Nous avons aussi parlé de sa capacité à ne retenir que le positif, une grande qualité qu’elle a développé à la suite de son ascension du Kilimandjaro.

Having worked in finance and wealth management industry for over two decades, Irina has shifted her focus to the preservation of the environment and in particular in Ocean protection. Her passion is assisting companies and individuals in their efforts to embrace sustainability and act on the huge environmental issues our planet is facing. Auto-proclaimed an “imperfect activist”, Irina spent five weeks at the start of 2020 researching and revealing the plastic pollution in Galapagos and Easter Island, and navigating in between, as part of the eXXpedition crew. An MBA graduate in Finance from the International University of Monaco, Irina’s education in the field of sustainability includes the edX Program “Our Planet - Our Ocean” and the Stanford University Program in Business Sustainability. Irina is a professional member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals.

We talked about awareness about ocean pollution, her trip of a life time in the Pacific Ocean, how did she prepare, what her days looked like on the sail boat with an only women crew, the sampling they did and how they witness the micro plastic even in such a remote place in the ocean. This voyage is not really finished because she’s still working on putting together a professional documentary raising awareness about ocean pollution. It is a bridge between the past with the activity of Jacques Yves Cousteau that has been fascinating her since she’s a little girl, the now and the future generation.

Irina runs Broth By Design which is a food supplements business as her main activity and she is now offering some consulting to companies who want to target Zero Waste. She launches a new platform The imperfect activist that will offer eco-friendly products

Alicia Sedgwick began her career as a lawyer but has also worked in radio, television production and event management. She teaches at the International University of Monaco, in Public Speaking and Presentation Skills, Leadership and Managing People. She also teaches public speaking and presentation skills at the International School of Monaco. 

Alicia is a corporate communications trainer and professional MC for events, such as TEDxMonteCarlo, where she brings her individual talent of making everyone feel embraced, included and involved, with humour and empathy. She is also co-curator of Monaco's first TEDx Youth Event held at the International School of Monaco. 

Her first book "Communicating Through Change" became an International bestseller overnight from launch in January this year 2021.

We talked about : 

-Her career path and how she became a communications’ expert

-Her first book ‘Communicating Through Change’. Alicia explained that she wanted to help others by writing about her real life stories. She described the process of writing the book until the book launch so very useful for anyone who has an idea or a dream to publish a book one day.

She took us into the part of the book that covers the pandemic with a positive message and the importance of keeping hope.

We tackled the topic about self promotion and how it is difficult for women to promote themselves and Alicia shared some tips 

-As a corporate communications trainer, she shared some mistakes people make and gave us a bunch of tips to improve our communications skill in real life and online, not only to look and sound better but also to feel more at ease and confident when speaking in front of an audience

Née dans une terre d'art, d'élégance et de passion, l'Italie, Valentina Selvaggia de Gaspari voyage dès sa plus tendre enfance. Cela lui apprit la curiosité, la tolérance, la  liberté et l'ouverture de cœur ...
Guidée par ces lumières, elle est devenue plus tard polyglote, cosmopolite et sa plus grande fierté c’est d’être maman de deux garçons aujourd’hui âgés de 18 et 20 ans.
 
Elle travaille d’abord pour de grandes agences de publicité, dont DDB Paris et
Saatchi&Saatchi, puis prend la responsabilité de la marque Yves Saint-Laurent Rive-Gauche et Beauté au sein de Groupe GUCCI.
De retour à Monaco en 2004, elle crée une société spécialisée dans la gestion électronique des documents et remporte le premier prix du concours dès la Jeune Chambre Economique de Monaco. Elle est ensuite élue par le Gouvernement Princier au Conseil Economique et Social pour travailler sur une proposition de loi sur la signature électronique.

C’est alors que son passé la rattrape. La direction artistique la passionne. Elle revient à la photographie et elle fait des portraits sa spécialité. Sa jovialité et sa bienveillance suscitent la confiance et l’enthousiasme de tous ses modèles, qu’ils soient mannequins, VIP, ou simplement anonymes. Portant une attention toute particulière à la lumière et au cadrage, Valentina capte le regard de ses sujets sans qu’ils ne posent, reflétant ainsi leur personnalité profonde.
L’intensité de chaque cliché et leur spontanéité singularisent son travail, et lui confèrent son unicité. Son œuvre, florilège cosmopolite, véritable voyage, illumine alors l’âme de chacun.

« La joie est en tout, il suffit de savoir l’extraire » Confucius

Hilde est Belge, flamande et a 59 ans. Elle est veuve et a deux filles et un garçon. Avec une maîtrise de philologie germanique, une agrégation et un diplôme d’école de commerce dans la poche elle intègre le monde des affaires avec des postes à responsabilités avant de créer sa propre société Colibri à Monaco. Le décès prématuré de son mari bouleversa sa vie familiale et professionnelle et elle reprit la société Bluewave Software  qu’il dirigeait. 

Très engagée elle a toujours mis l’être humain au centre. Hilde se donne à fond pour l’association Aux cœurs des mots qu’elle a créé avec 17 amies et dont le Prince Albert II est le Président d’honneur. L’objectif est d’intégrer la jeunesse dans le débat sur l’égalité entre les filles et les garçons à travers un concours d’écriture dans lequel déjà 59 pays participent. Au moment de l’enregistrement de cet épisode, en mars 2020, elle terminait son mandat de présidente de l’association des femmes chefs d’entreprises de Monaco. Passionnée de la nature et de voyage elle adore découvrir différentes cultures. Fervente lectrice elle dit qu’elle pourrait vivre dans une bibliothèque car les livres font aussi voyager. 

Nous avons échangé sur le sujet de l’égalité hommes/femmes. Hilde nous explique comment est née l’association Aux cœurs des mots et comment on peut changer les visions sur l’égalité hommes-femmes en s’adressant aux enfants et en les intégrant dans le débat.

Hilde nous a éclairé sur l’entrepreneuriat au féminin à Monaco et sur les problématiques que rencontrent les femmes entrepreneures.

Hilde nous a parlé de son activité professionnelle et nous a expliqué son mode de gestion des priorités qui lui permet de mener autant d’activités en parallèle. 

Hilde nous a aussi donné le secret de sa positivité, un moment très émouvant et inspirant.

 Natasha Frost-Savio is Anglo-American, educated in London, in France and Los Angeles. After creating a translation agency in 2009, Natasha and her husband came up with the idea to start brewing California style craft beer in the south of France in 2016. After sharing the idea with some friends, Blue Coast Brewing Company was born. 

Natasha is also the president of Pink Ribbon Monaco that she founded in 2011. The aim of this non-profit organization is to raise awareness about breast cancer screening. She is also a member of the committee for the protection and promotion of women’s rights in Monaco

• We talked about how Pink Ribbon Monaco started, the progress in Monaco in terms of breast cancer screening and the importance of positive role models for women going through treatment.
• We moved on to a very different topic which is how Natasha and her husband brought some cool Californian vibes to the French Riviera. Natasha shared the story of how Blue Coast Beer started. She told us how they struck on this idea to make craft beer that is now selling in 500 places. We talked about the importance of the vision and that it’s not about selling a product but in her case a lifestyle and authenticity. We talked about the challenges she faced to put the business together while being pregnant at the same time.
• Natasha is full of energy. We talked about efficiency and how to handle a lot at the same time and how to nurture a positive mindset.

For sake of clarity this podcast was recording before the covid 19 pandemic.

My guest is Vibeke Brask Thomsen, director of SheCanHeCan

Vibeke Brask Thomsen is Danish she was raised in France, Monaco and Switzerland. She worked for many years in Brussels on security, disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation. She understood the effects of gender inequality when working with women in post-conflict societies. That’s what motivated her to start her non-profit organisation in Monaco SheCanHeCan (formerly Gender Hopes) to work towards the goal of making gender equality a reality. Her mission is to encourage girls and boys to challenge life-limiting gender stereotypes and to realise their full potential, independent of their gender.

In this episode we talked about :

•  Difference between Inclusion and diversity. Many tips on actions to take in our personal lives and at work.
• The Pledge for Equality : how making a small commitment can have a big impact
• Parenting in a gender-neutral way, not focusing on stereotypes but by widening options for the kids. On top of her work in Equality, Vibeke has 3 young kids so a lot of experience to share on the topic of parenting.
