I introduce a brand new segment with my spiritual correspondent Jessica and then I get to talk to Rich Campanelli from Much Music! It was so fun! I get to ask him about what it was like to be at the hub of Canadian pop culture for so long and getting to interview some of the worlds biggest stars including MISS BRITNEY SPEARS HONEY. The Superficial Spirit is a podcast that explores how pop culture affects our spiritual experiences and seeks to uncover unconventional ways people experience the divine… Every episode explores a different area of spirituality including tarot, crystals, psychics, manifesting, plant medicine and modern new-age trends. Peter shamelessly explores the spiritual power of celebrities like Britney Spears, Courtney Love, Paris Hilton and The Real Housewives.

Guests include RuPaul's Drag Race Superstars, Reality TV stars, Scientists, witches, psychics, tarot readers, naturopathic doctors and regular people who've been affected by modern Spirituality.

Every episode includes a segment with @jesssica.daily, Peter's Spiritual correspondent and a former reiki master and intuitive who's become passionate about sharing her own journey becoming disillusioned from the new age community. Jessica shares personal horror stories and hot takes about popular new age topics like tarot, psychics, mediums, ayahuasca retreats, crystals, ufo's and aliens.

WOW IT'S BEEN A WHOLE YEAR!!!! My goal was to get to a year with the show and then take a little break, assess, and figure out what I want to do next. I have learned so much and in this short episode I break down how my relationship with pop culture and spirituality has changed and spend a little time on specific moments from the past year that has nudged me to a brighter place. I'm going back to the KELOWNAFORNIA and chatting with two of my favourite Okanagan queers, Sparkle, and Dustyn! Evan and I lived in Kelowna almost two years ago before coming to Toronto and it was quite...something. Lol. Definitely one of the more challenging times in our life. But that didn't stop some amazing things from happening. I got to work with them to create the first-ever monthly queer event at a nightclub called FRUITCAKE and the first-ever pride event at Big White Ski Resort called PEAK PRIDE. It was a lot of firsts for us and a really exciting time. We reminisce about our creative time together, the perks and pitfalls of being creative in such a small scene, THE ANTI MASK RALLIES that happen WEEKLY in Kelowna, and why moving to the Okanagan is a GOOD IDEA for anyone who wants to live THE SIMPLE LIFE, henni.

in this episode, I talk to long-time friend, artist, and true crime superfan, Kat Thorsen. Kat and I met in Vancouver when I was a talent agent and she told me about a case that she had been researching for more than ten years at that point.  It's the infamous "Babes In The Woods" case about a couple of child skeletons that were found in Stanley Park decades earlier. The case crossed Kat's path very serendipitously and ever since her work and connection to the case and the people involved have had a profound effect on her, her spirit, and how she lives her life. She has created an amazing graphic novel to compliment her work on the case and recently broken down her 18 years of work into three exciting parts....but more on that later.

In this episode, we talk about what pulled Kat towards true crime in the first case (it was Pickton), the process of inserting herself amongst the tight knight circle of the victim's friends and families, how stumbling upon the Babes In The Woods case changed her life and how ghosts and spirituality seem to keep her on the right track, towards the ultimate truth.

 

This conversation, like so many I've had on the show, feels very much like the start of something brand new and exciting.

OK, so one of the unexpected things that have happened because of this show is conversations that take a more critical look at the new age/spiritual community. After I spoke with Matthew from the Conspirituality podcast I started having some really interesting, and quite frankly disturbing, conversations from people who had encountered problematic behaviors in these communities. My friend Laura is one of them and today she's sharing her story. This is not a conversation in which we are calling out certain people and places, more of a general discussion with specific references to a music festival in particular and the scandals that stemmed from some of its attendees and social leaders who had built a following. Laura is not the only person who has reached out with similar stories but we've got to start somewhere...

FRESH OFF THE ANNOUCEMENT THAT SHE IS LEAVING VANCOUVER!!! I have a VETERAN in the Canadian drag community - RAYE MUTHA FUCKEN SUNSHINE!! Like a lot of my guests (lol) I got way back with Raye, back to the ORIGINAL ODYSSEY when we were just lil drug babies trying to become famous. It was great to take a walk down memory lane and talk about how club culture has pretty much moved entirely online and how that affects the artists journey, how they express themselves and connect with their audiences. This is a great episode for anyone who has experience with mental health or addiction issues or folks who are curious about sobriety! Raye and I have similar experience when it comes to excess and we talk about how fun times can turn really dark and how the transition to sobriety it's not always black and white. Of course, we talk about drag race and where she's at creatively and share our predictions for where drag can go. AND YES WE TALK ABOUT SPIRITUALITY. Check it out!

LIVE FAST DIE YOUNG BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL. Oh lordt, how things are changing!!!  Today I am talking to my forever sister and one time partner in crime Parker McMullin aka Jane Smoker.  This is actually my 2nd interview with Parker, I lost the first one when I switched computers - oopsie. Anyway, I saw a video on Insta recently of an old interview with Lindsay Lohan on the David Letterman show. He is teasing her about her sobriety and continued stints in rehab and seeing it through a 2021 lens is pretty cringeworthy which seems to be a theme these days with former Hollywood "bad girls". First we had the Paris Hilton documentary, then Britney's and now clips are surfacing to Lindsay. The whole conversation about the toxicity of tabloid culture is a hard pill to swallow because that is the exact place I got most of my inspiration for decades of my life. Watching those women on Perez and TMZ made me crave destruction and chaos and no one understands that better than Parker. Parker and I go way back and on todays show we reminisce about working and playing together, being captivated by the illusion of fame and of course WHY THE HELL HE QUIT DRAG BEFORE WINNING CANADAS DRAG RACE.
