Officials are investigating after a body was found hanging from a tree on the campus of Delta State University. The body was found by a staffer around 7:05 a.m. Monday near central campus, according to Delta State police chief Michael Peeler. The deceased has been identified as Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a student at the university. No foul play is suspected Plus, a second person was found to have died by hanging in Mississippi on Monday morning. According to the Vicksburg Police Department, officers were notified that a man was hanging in a wooded area of Washington Street near the Ameristar Casino. The deceased has been identified as Cory Zukatis, a native of Brandon. Zukatis was believed to be homeless. Foul play is not suspected.

The Mississippi Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a death row inmate who was convicted of murder in Harrison County. Leslie Galloway III was convicted of killing Shakeylia Anderson in 2010.

Tributes and vigils were held for political commentator Charlie Kirk across the U.S. over the weekend. 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is accused of fatally shooting Kirk last week, is set to appear in court tomorrow.

All Centennial events and classes at Delta State University have been cancelled today. Delta State issued a statement this morning saying out of respect for the individual and their loved ones, they're going to refrain from additional comment until authorities release more information. Plus, there were no injuries in a police chase in Harrison County over the weekend. According to Biloxi police, 24-year-old Joel Casey fled from a traffic stop and hit a police car. The chase went outside of Biloxi, but remained in the Harrison County limits. Harrison County deputies assisted in the chase, and Casey was stopped after entering Biloxi for a second time.

An actor with Mississippi ties made history on Sunday night at the 2025 Emmy Awards. "Severance" star Tramell Tillman became the first black man to ever win a Best Supporting Actor in a drama series Emmy. According to JT Mitchell, Tillman is a Jackson State University graduate.

Two firefighters were injured while putting out a fire at a business in Jackson early this morning. Chief Fire Investigator Charles Felton told the TV station the blaze occurred around 4:43 a.m. at a business on Ellis Avenue. Plus, Jackson police are looking for a suspect in a robbery on Friday night. According to investigators, three men were injured during the robbery on Magnolia Road near Clinton Boulevard. One victim was listed in critical condition. The names of the victims haven't been released.

Football fans have been maxing out the available seats on Amtrak's new Mardi Gras service, which has been in service for nearly a month. Sunday, a new train car with an extra 60 seats was added.
