A Madison-Ridgeland Academy student is being treated at a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon. The female student was crossing the road on foot from the school over to Starawberry Patch Park when hit by a juvenile driver.

A pair of Mississippi Supreme Court justices could be moving to a different bench after receiving nominations from President Donald Trump. The commander-in-chief nominated Justices James Maxwell and Robert Chamberlin to move over to the U-S District Court of Northern Mississippi.

City leaders in Tupelo have unveiled the city's first Safe Haven Baby Box, which allows mothers to safely and anonymously surrender babies. These safe havens are climate-controlled, and first responders are notified the moment a child is placed inside. The baby box is located on the side of Fire Station No. 3 on North Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

The Jackson City Council has voted unanimously to ban ski masks in public. A move that had the full backing of Police Chief Joseph Wade prohibits individuals from wearing ski masks, or “shiesty” masks, in public areas within Mississippi’s capital city. Wade previously contended that the apparent uptick in mask-wearing is partially in response to his department’s introduction of facial recognition technology in public spaces, tech that is rendered virtually useless when faces are fully covered.

Tavon Moore, a state trooper injured in a motorcycle crash earlier this month, has made strides in his recovery but still has a “long road ahead of him,” according to the commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Commissioner Sean Tindell said Tuesday that Moore is alert and continues to receive specialized care. However, the 28-year-old trooper cannot move any part of his lower body following the near life-ending wreck on Aug. 2.

Blood supplies across the country typically drop over the summer months. Mississippi Blood Services is calling on area residents to donate at their centers in Flowood, Cleveland, and Oxford.

The suspect wanted for the murder of a man and a woman at a gas station in Holly Springs, Darian McKinney, turned himself in to Marshall County authorities on Tuesday. The shooting happened Saturday at a Circle K gas station on Highway 7.
