Eight Mississippi Lottery players turned non-winning scratch-off tickets into big wins, collecting a total of $2.22 million in the 2nd Chance promotional drawings held July 3. The next 2nd Chance drawing is scheduled for October 9.

The Holly Springs Utility District is being investigated for not delivering adequate electric service to its customers. In January, Northern District Public Service Commissioner Chris Brown told us it's common for customers to go without power for hours, sometimes days. In May, the TVA filed suit against the city for breach of contract. Brown told what a TVA audit of the Holly Springs Utility District revealed.

Jones County Sheriff's deputies say it's a miracle that a man who sustained extensive injuries in a motorcycle crash and spent hours in a ditch survived. 37-year-old Joshua Sumrall called 911 around 10 a.m. Saturday and told them he was badly hurt, didn't know what happened, or where he was. Dispatchers used his phone to find his location in a ditch along Highway 29 North near Soso. Plus, there were two train crashes over the weekend in Mississippi, the first of which happened in Tallahatchie County when a train derailed on Saturday. Just north of Sardis, a separate derailment took place on Highway 51.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit earlier this year asking the federal court to prevent legislation banning DEI in public schools and universities in Mississippi from going into effect. The suit claims HB 1193 violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments by imposing the state government’s preferred views on matters of public concern, such as race, gender, and sexuality. Senator Nicole Akins-Boyd told us some educators have embraced the bill.
