A violent, habitual offender with a long history of crimes has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with no possibility of parole for two counts of trafficking meth. 44-year-old Latarke Maurice Sims, of Forest, had previously been convicted of armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2006, for which he served a 30-year sentence. He was also convicted of selling cocaine in 1998.

Residents in Pearl will vote on whether or not to allow wine and liquor sales in the city during today's general election. Pearl is in Rankin County, a dry county, so alcohol can't be sold within its borders unless municipalities opt out of the law through a local election.

The Washington Post is being criticized by the White House for reporting on what they call a "mysterious" decline in fentanyl flowing across the border. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, U.S. law enforcement seizures of fentanyl have dropped 50% since the November election.

Polls will remain open until 7 tonight across Mississippi, where roughly 200 cities are holding their municipal general elections. Secretary of State Michael Watson wants residents to know the voting machines are secure and backed by paper ballots.

The college baseball season in Mississippi has officially ended. While Florida State ousted Mississippi State in the Tallahassee Regional on Sunday, both Ole Miss and Southern Miss had chances to win their regionals on Monday night.
