    A suspect charged with three counts of attempted capital murder on a law enforcement officer in Hattiesburg has been denied bond.
    Officers were investigating a call about a suspicious person on May 14 in the 1500 block of West Pine Street near Timothy Lane. Amardius Mack allegedly displayed a firearm when police arrived, and that led to an exchange of gunfire. Plus, Gautier police are looking for suspects in a fatal shooting. Kadarius Williams was found dead in the area of Tally Court and Wellington Drive around 6:42 on Monday morning.

  • Two coast men have been convicted of human trafficking
    Two coast men have been convicted of human trafficking. 31-year-old Darran Berry of Biloxi was sentenced to ten years, with five years to serve, for one count of promoting prostitution. Berry was also sentenced to five years for one count of possession of a controlled substance and six years for one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Dakota Cruse, of Vancleave, was sentenced to 40 years for one count of child exploitation. Cruse is to serve seven years without the possibility of parole and five years of post-release supervision.

    Severe storms are likely along and northwest of the Natchez Trace corridor starting this afternoon and into the night, and possibly to the southeast of the Natchez Trace. The main threats are damaging wind gusts up to 70mph, large hail up to golf ball size, and tornadoes.

  • Mississippi inmate sentenced to 12 years for orchestrating a home invasion while he was in custody
    A Mississippi inmate has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for orchestrating a home invasion while he was in custody. According to court documents, two men entered a home in Nevada in January of 2023, where a couple and their two minor children were present. The victims were held at gunpoint, and an adult victim was assaulted and robbed. Investigators later learned that 29-year-old Sean Patrick Curtis used social media to set up the home invasion, targeting a former girlfriend. Curtis pleaded guilty to cyberstalking earlier this year.

    Every municipality in Mississippi must conduct an annual audit of its books, but the city of McComb has failed to issue a public audit for four of the previous six fiscal years. State Auditor Shad White explained that because the city is not in compliance, the state agency will be taking over the city’s internal audit process. It's a legal mechanism that's rarely--if ever--used.

    With Memorial Day right around the corner, many Americans are expected to be on the move rather than sticking around for the hometown barbecues. AAA is projecting that over 45 million people will travel more than 50 miles away from home during this year’s Memorial Day holiday period from Thursday, May 22, to Monday, May 26. If that number holds, it will make for the busiest Memorial Day weekend ever, breaking the record set in 2005 by over a million travelers.
