But the sweet potato had deep roots in the state long before SB 2382 passed, home to more than 170 sweet potato farms and the “Sweet Potato Capital of the World” in Vardaman. Mississippi State defeated UAB 8-3 on Tuesday. They'll travel to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 12 Alabama this weekend. Games start Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Child grooming is about to become a felony in Mississippi, where lawmakers have passed legislation that also sets penalties for anyone convicted of violating the law. Under HB 1308, child grooming will become a felony, with penalties of anywhere from 2-10 years in prison and a fine of no more than $10,000. If a person in a position of trust, such as a teacher, counselor, or physician, is convicted of child grooming, they would face 5-10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
