While Jackson was a focus for many people during Tuesday's municipal primary elections, the suburbs found some answers, with citizens in Brandon and Flowood deciding who would represent them in city hall for the next four years. Brandon Mayor Butch Lee defeated state Rep. Fred Shanks in the Republican primary. With no Democrats or independents running, Lee will retain his spot. In Flowood, longtime alderwoman Kathy Smith defeated Greg Wilcox in the Republican primary. No Democrats there, either, which means Smith will become the third ever mayor of Flowood.

In Biloxi, Incumbent Republican Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich defeated challenger Jordan Gollub with 84% of the votes. He'll face Independent Andy Linville and Libertarian Farren Santibanez in the general election. In Gulfport, former state Rep. Sonya Williams Barnes defeated Ronnie Henderson in Gulfport’s Democratic primary, securing almost 84% of the vote. She'll face Republican Hugh Keating—who ran unopposed—in the general election.
