The season ended Friday night for both the Ole Miss men and women’s basketball teams. Chris Beard’s group led against Michigan State in the Sweet 16 but couldn’t hang on, falling 73 to 70. The Lady Rebs and head coach Yolette McPhee-McCuin couldn’t stop UCLA’s Lauren Betts, losing to the Bruins 76 to 62. It was the first time in program history that both Ole Miss teams had made it to the Sweet 16 in the same year.

Lawmakers are facing a dilemma after missing weekend deadlines to iron out a plan for funding the state government after July 1. While the Senate gaveled in at the state capitol on Saturday morning for what is commonly referred to as “conference weekend” – a time that has become status quo for leaders of both chambers to negotiate the state’s multi-billion-dollar budget for the incoming fiscal year – the House had decided to go home.

Several school districts have announced delayed starts this morning due to the threat of severe weather, including the Lawrence County and Rankin County School Districts. Plus, a Clay County grandmother is facing child abuse charges. According to deputies, a motorist spotted 79-year-old Marie Kelley's grandson walking down a busy road and called 911. The 2-year-old ran away after Kelley allegedly struck him several times with a switch. Investigators say there were numerous marks and welts on the little boy's body, including his head. As a result, Kelley was charged with felony child abuse.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell says he's seen a record number of tickets issued to drivers going over 100 mph. Most drivers already go a few miles per hour over the posted speed limit, and Tindell believes any increase in the speed limit would make our roads deadlier.

A Horn Lake man is charged with two counts of kidnapping and simple domestic assault in connection with an incident that started in the parking lot of Fortuna Grocery on March 26. According to police, video footage confirmed that Izaya Kutschinski held a female hostage inside a white Lexus, forcibly restraining her and preventing her from leaving despite several attempts to escape. Witnesses told police the situation escalated when Kutschinski allegedly forced the female back into the vehicle and fled the scene. The female victim and her child were located safely in Memphis.
