Crews with Atmos Energy are making progress as they restore gas service to tens of thousands of customers in northeast Mississippi after an explosion left three injured last week. On Wednesday, a crew was working to repair a gas leak in Lee County when an explosion left roughly 20,000 homes, schools, and businesses with disrupted services. Residents across Tupelo, Guntown, Verona, Saltillo, Brewer, and Plantersville were unable to take hot showers or heat their homes or businesses.

Governor Tate Reeves has ordered that all flags across the state be flown at half-staff today, in honor of three Mississippi heroes who lost their lives in a medical helicopter crash on March 10th. Jakob Kindt, a critical care paramedic, and Dustin Pope, a flight care nurse and the base supervisor for AirCare in Columbus, were both employed by UMMC. Cal Wesolowski was a pilot with Med-Trans Corporation. The chopper was on its way back to Columbus after the crew hauled a patient to Jackson for treatment. It went down less than 15 minutes after takeoff in a wooded area near Highway 43 and the Natchez Trace Parkway.
