Sl: Matej je sedel na leseni klopi v parku Tivoli.
En: Matej was sitting on a wooden bench in Tivoli park.

Sl: Senca kostanjev ga je hladila pred poletno vročino.
En: The shade from the chestnut trees cooled him from the summer heat.

Sl: Sonce je sijalo skozi liste, ptice pa so peli svoje pesmi.
En: The sun shone through the leaves, and birds sang their songs.

Sl: Okoli njega so bile družine, prijatelji in parčki.
En: Around him were families, friends, and couples.

Sl: Vsi so uživali v sproščenem popoldnevu.
En: Everyone was enjoying the relaxed afternoon.

Sl: Vendar pa je Matej čutil tesnobo.
En: However, Matej felt anxious.

Sl: Danes je bil njegov rojstni dan, dan, ki ga je želel preživeti z Ana in Gregorjem.
En: Today was his birthday, a day he wanted to spend with Ana and Gregor.

En: But Matej didn't see anything that hinted at celebrating a birthday.

Sl: Ko so pojedli, je Matej zbral pogum.
En: After they ate, Matej gathered courage.

Sl: "Kaj če bi igrali kakšno igro?
En: "How about we play a game?"

Sl: " je predlagal.
En: he suggested.

Sl: "Lahko igramo enko ali nekaj drugega.
En: "We can play Enka or something else."

En: Gregor stayed back by the blanket.

Sl: Ko sta se vrnila, je Matej opazil nekaj novega na odeji.
En: When they returned, Matej noticed something new on the blanket.

Sl: Na njej je bil skrit drug del košare, in znotraj se je svetilo nekaj prekrasnega: njegova najljubša čokoladna torta.
En: A hidden part of the basket revealed itself, and inside, something beautiful shone: his favorite chocolate cake.

Sl: "Vse najboljše, Matej!
En: "Happy birthday, Matej!"

Sl: " sta zaklicala Ana in Gregor.

Sl: Matej je bil presenečen in srečen.
En: Matej was surprised and happy.
