Claiborne is the author of Irresistible Revolution, more recently Beating Guns and several other books. He's a founding member at the Simple Way and co-founder of Red Letter Christians. Shane is a renowned social activist, advocating for nonviolence and service to the poor.

She comes from Latin America, where she describes there is beauty, colour, music, violence, injustice, poverty; and all of these things are woven together. Surrender emerged out of UNOH’s work with a desire to include the wider church in a grace based invitation to the call of Jesus to follow him to the margins. 

So many people have been responsible for its impact, some of them have been on this this podcast in previous seasons. One of those at the heart of it was Ash Barker. Local community leadership developer, shalom activist, speaker, author, minister; now living in Winson Green UK leading seedbeds.

The Surrender Leadership Program supports young leaders from culturally diverse backgrounds to transform in life and leadership. Following the first Surrender Leadership Program gathering in Melbourne/Naarm earlier in the year, we speak with program director Ben Chong, along with graduates Rina and Chanelle. Ben is 2nd generation Malaysian-Chinese and lives on Gubbi Gubbi country (Sunshine Coast) with his wife Chelsea – who he first met at a SURRENDER conference! After attending his first SURRENDER Conference in 2006, Ben found a home in the SURRENDER community and has stayed connected ever since. Ben is passionate about helping people to lead themselves and others well, with integrity, sustainability and joy. Ben is a professional Christian leadership coach and has trained in Australia and overseas. In addition to his SURRENDER role, he is also the Director of Blueprint Leadership Coaching and was a pastor for 8 years.

Continuing our conversations with Adelaide/Tartanya-based leaders, Craig speaks with Rev Cyrus Kung. Cyrus is a church-planter and Uniting Church minister who joins us to discuss his space and the way in which Jesus is found at the intersecting margins of different communities. The ideas of third spaces, liminiality and hybridity shape Cyrus' approach to ministry and community life in his local context.

In Tartanya/Adelaide, we hear from a climate justice panel including Rev Dr Paul Goh, among others. Paul is Korean-Australian Uniting Church minister and currently working with the Synod of South Australia’s Mission Resourcing team in the areas of Justice and Multicultural and Cross-cultural ministry. He has had diverse ministry experience in Korea, the USA, and Australia including intentional intercultural ministry with Anglo-multicultural and Fijian congregations in Melbourne.

The first destination of our Surrender Roadtrip is Tartanya/Adelaide, where we met Sally Shaw. She is National Director of A Rocha Australia, which is an international Christian conservation organisation. She lives with her husband Doug, in the Aldinga EcoArts village in South Australia and is linked to the local Anglican parish church. Sally has worked as a nurse in Cambodian refugee camps, community development with World Vision, and established an NGO. She is presently doing a Doctor of Ministry, focusing on designing and running a series of workshops on biblical and practical ways to care for God’s creation.
