Did you know a protector is better able to do their job when they have a sense of paranoia? Not frothing-at-the-mouth paranoia, but a more concentrated awareness of one’s enemies, whether those enemies are humans, the weather, or whatever. In this episode, I discuss recent news events in which I believe the sense of paranoia was lacking, and disaster took place. Anyone who is in charge of protecting others should have a sense of paranoia, which creates a heightened sense of preparedness, and better enables the protector to predict what looming threats are nearby, so that they can react accordingly.

Are we really going to make it to 2023? Soon we will know for sure. 2022 was a difficult year, but some things that began in 2022 look like they will continue and get even worse in 2023. In this episode I concentrate on the negative developments all around.
The economy: thanks to a Federal Reserve determined to end inflation, interest rates have shot up and will stifle economic growth, maybe even to the point of deflation. This would solve one problem with an even worse problem. For this reason I encourage our listeners to consider side hustles, as can be found on the Internet here, here, here, and here. If none of these strike your fancy, just look around the websites Fiverr.com and Upwork.com and see if you can get paid for offering a service that you are good at.
The property market: this is getting a haircut, which means that prices of raw land are going down even more. Consider getting a survival retreat, because vacant lots are getting cheaper. And remember, EVERYTHING is negotiable. The longer a property is on the market, the more willing the seller should be in reducing the price, offering incentives like owner-financing, or a combination. And don’t forget to buy my book on the subject here.
Physical attacks on the American electrical grid: the 2013 attack on the grid outside San Jose was bad enough, but now we are seeing more. Steven Hayward speculates that the eco crowd might be behind the attacks.
Peaceful transfer of political power: it sets a bad precedent when a new president tries to throw the out-going president in jail, but the current administration is charging ahead on this. A leftist in The Atlantic grasps the significance of this issue but still comes to the wrong conclusion.
I finished this episode discussing my wife’s recent illness and hospital stay, and how friends have offered to help, and how I recommend people “just do it” when helping people in my situation. After finishing this podcast, I found a well-written piece that has similar thoughts.

A much-ignored explosion at an Iranian nuclear site last December may have heralded Iran’s entrance into the world’s nuclear club. Iran has been enriching uranium for years, and it may finally have developed nuclear bombs. I believe this is the case, and Iran is probably making smaller nuclear bombs like what was exploded in early December. Small nuclear bombs can be hiked in backpacks into enemy countries and detonated.
This was all hypothesized in my book EMP NYC, and it looks as if it may be coming true.
A small (2 kiloton) nuclear bomb can be used to do all kinds of damage, like destroying bridges, buildings, and stadiums full of people. But a few miles away, people are not so threatened, as was shown in this test by Army volunteers who, in 1957, stood 3 miles beneath a 2 kiloton nuclear explosion. If they had had any electronics with them, the electronics would have been fried by an EMP, but they were not physically harmed.
Still, despite the media blackout on the explosion in Iran, it is time to stock up on radiation pills, radiation detection equipment, and items that can help in case of skin burns.
Here are some great pills to have on hand in case you are downwind of a nuclear explosion, in danger of getting exposed to radioactive fallout. Right now these pills are cheap and plentiful. Dosage info comes with the pills.
A dosimeter is important to measure your accumulated radiation. Here is the link to a combination dosimeter / geiger counter, but at $130 it is a bit pricey. Here is the link to a less-expensive credit-card size dosimeter that you can keep in your wallet.
Burns also accompany nuclear explosions, and I spent some time in the podcast discussing the usefulness of aloe vera plants and coconut oil.
Here is the link to an indoor aloe vera plant, available on Amazon for only $5. (Some states may not allow you to order these.) Aloe vera plants are great to have around to treat burns. Back in the old days these plants were kept in kitchens, to use for cooking burns.
Coconut oil is great to have around, not only to treat burns and moisturize skin, but also to use as an oil and butter substitute in cooking. I mentioned some great deals on coconut oil that I found at Walmart and Costco, but here is a pretty good deal I found on coconut oil at Amazon.

Issues covered in this episode include the Rittenhouse verdict, the evolution of crypto currencies, the importance of second passports, and the lameness of COVID vaccines and booster shots. Then I cover some new gripes, like the Waukesha parade attack that was perpetrated by a long-time criminal who was repeatedly given breaks by a soft-on-crime prosecutor, and the new (and final?) James Bond movie, a victim of political correctness.
And, speaking of the Waukesha Parade Attack, we need to pray not only for those injured in the attack, but also for the families of those who died. We also need to pray for the mental state of the First Responders and Good Samaritans who reportedly were in the middle of the carnage. PTSD of those who were there is probably rampant.
Police officers with PTSD can reach out for counseling by going to the websites policeptsd.com and copsalive.com/do-you-have-ptsd/. Author Allen Kates wrote a great book on the subject, entitled Copshock. First Responders who suspect they have PTSD can get help by going to the websites healingourown.org and ptsdunited.com.

So much of what passes for public discourse of issues today involves the powers-that-be trying to bully or censor the rest of us into accepting their agreed-upon explanation. It all reminds me of the scene at the end of The Wizard of Oz, where the curtain is pulled back, and the wizard bellows, “Don’t look at that man behind the curtain!” Of course he would say that, because Dorothy and her friends eventually looked at the man behind the curtain and discovered that wizard was a fraud.
Same for many issues of the day: the seemingly-intentional disaster of the Afghanistan pull-out, a rogue general who defied President Trump and could have committed treason, the various Covid controversies, the Critical Race Theory being taught to our kids, the January 6 defendants rotting in jail without any rights, the fishy 2020 presidential election, and the discovery that there is an Antifa professor in a Sacramento public school, trying to turn the school kids there into Antifa revolutionaries.
We are told not to think for ourselves, and unfortunately, way too many Americans follow orders and do not deviate from the approved explanations. As preppers, we need to continually “look at that man behind the curtain,” assess the situation, and make up our own minds.

It might sound far-fetched, but what if things get really bad in the US and we aren’t allowed to leave? At that point, you will wish you had a second passport.
History is filled with examples of dangerous situations in different countries, where whole populations of people were threatened or killed, and the only survival option for those people was to leave the country. The Jews in Germany from the 1920’s to the mid-1940’s were only one of many examples. The time to prepare for evacuating to survive is before it is too late.
In this episode of the Survival In Motion podcast, I discuss and provide examples of the various migration options for Americans who want a “Plan B” for them and their families if staying in the US starts looking unsafe, and survival looks more promising in other countries.
And not all of the options are expensive. Many times it is possible to get a dual citizenship in another country by descent (or ancestry), and this is something you can apply for yourself. Other citizenship options include: citizenship by investment, citizenship by naturalization, and citizenship by marriage. Sometimes only a long-term or permanent visa in another country might work or be better for your situation.
Of course, not every option will work for you and your family, but this episode is meant to whet your appetite to do further research and get an appropriate expat option ready for you and your family while you still can.

It is a difficult subject, but everyone eventually dies, and we all must know how to prepare for and what we must do when a loved one dies.
Consulting and possibly hiring a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction is important in not only preparing a will but also in estate planning in general. It would also be a good idea to check out Nolo Press’ books on the subject: Willmaker and Trust Book And Software Kit For 2021, and The Executor’s Guide: Settling A Loved One’s Estate Or Trust. I like Nolo Press. It is a collection of legal guides that are written by attorneys but in plain language that non-attorneys can understand.
There is one good book, Before I Go, that everyone should use to prepare their loved ones to get together assets, insurance polices and the rest as they enter the probate process.
All this talk of death reminds me that the Kindle version of my book, EMP NYC, which has a very high death toll, is free for a few days on Amazon. Go to the link here.

The post Episode 49 – Preparing For The Death Of A Loved One appeared first on Survival in Motion.
Did you support President Trump’s re-election? Are you a conservative or a Christian? You may soon be blacklisted because the cancel culture is out there, de-platforming, doxing, physically threatening and ending the careers of people just like you. All in the name of public safety. No one dares call it blacklisting, but that’s what it is.
It goes way beyond closing the Twitter and Facebook accounts of President Trump and those who worked for him. Whole social media websites, like Parler and Gab, which freely allow conservative content, are being shut down. One woman was recently fired for even having Parler and Gab accounts.
Without a hint of shame, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocacio-Cortez (“AOC”) proposed the “Trump Accountability Project,” in which former Trump officials will be “held accountable” for their work with President Trump. Forbes Magazine, and the Lincoln Project have also gotten into the act.
The businesses of private citizens who supported President Trump are in the cross-hairs. One business, Taking Cara Babies, has had its customers harassed and is the subject of a boycott, simply because the founder was one of the 74 million Trump voters in 2020. Mike Lindell’s company, My Pillow, is also undergoing the same blacklisting because of his personal support of President Trump.
PBS’ Principal Counsel was recently recorded saying out loud what many establishment liberals privately think: that children of Trump supporters should be taken away and put into re-education camps. This sounds a lot like the Soviet gulag system under Joseph Stalin, documentaries of which are shown all the time on PBS. Maybe this attorney should watch one.
It gets worse. The Congress is now considering an anti-terrorism bill that Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard predicts would someday enable the government to persecute Christians, conservatives and libertarians.
We may be entering an era when free-thinking people will need to keep their heads down, limit their Internet posts and keep their political opinions to themselves. And plan your preps accordingly.
At the end of the podcast, I referred to the work of historian John Glubb, who has shown that most great empires have a lifespan of 250 years. With its 245 year birthday up this summer, the United States may soon be coming to an end. Let’s hope not, but we should all be prepared, just in case.

Included in this episode is an audio reading of chapter 2 of my still-in-progress post-apocalyptic book, tentatively entitled EMP 3. This book will probably be released next summer, and will join the earlier books in the “All At Once” series, which are entitled EMP: The End Of The Grid As We Know It and EMP NYC. At the end of today’s podcast I will have an announcement of a freebie.
These two fictional books join my other two non-fiction books on prepping, which are entitled Dirt Cheap Valuable Prepping, and Dirt Cheap Valuable Survival Retreat.
As you listen to the audio recording of chapter 2 of my next fictional book, keep in mind that, like my other fictional books, I include a lot of conflicts and survival lessons, but in unexpected ways and in unusual settings. This may be the only “when it happens” chapter of a post-apocalyptic book that takes place at an art auction in London.
This book will also tie together the stories of the various family members from the earlier books, and explain how the characters manage to survive and how they try to reunite. I think you will enjoy this book when it comes out.
