Samuel ministered before the Lord, worshipped in the tabernacle, and had favor with God and man. Where did he learn this? From perusing the 1 Samuel 2, it becomes clear that Samuel learned to follow God from his mother Hannah's example. She left him a legacy of service and steadfastness. Her pursuit in life was to bring glory to God, and her son followed her stellar example.

God always has a perfect plan. He had a plan for Hannah. And when Hannah had a problem, she brought it to the Lord.

As Peter, moved by the Holy Spirit, talks of submission, he begins with submission to the government. God has ordained rulers over us for our good. It is God's will that we submit to our rulers and honor them. By so doing, we bring glory to God.

Hannah was in great bitterness of soul over her present distresses. Rather than blame God and leave off trusting in Him, she draws nigh to Him. What is the legacy that you desire to leave to your children and grandchildren? Do those around you know what comes first in your life? Are you living a life for the temporal or the eternal?

Many believers are plagued by worries and fears. But do they have to be? God does not promise perfect circumstances, but He does promise the believers His presence. To have a secure mind, the believer must realize who God is and rest in what his Almighty God has given him. How could God forget you when He knew about you before your mother even knew of your existence?

God has used many people and inventions to further the Word of God throughout all generations. One such man was Johannes Gutenberg who is credited with some of the greatest improvements in the printing industry. His improvements led to the propagation of the Word of God throughout Europe which opened the eyes of many Europeans to the truths of Scripture.

Peter addresses the believers as strangers and pilgrims because the believer is a stranger and a pilgrim in this sinful world. As such, there are certain duties that God has given the saints to perform.

We desire more missionaries, but do we live a life that allows us to be missionaries in our hometowns? We must not only desire more missionaries, but we must also live lives that allow ourselves to be used of God to spread the Gospel.

Every believer is faced with the decision of whether they will obey or disobey God. Obedience to God is necessary if the believer is to please his Maker. Are we, like Peter, launching out in obedience to God, or are we staying put to please ourselves?
