Sustainable Solutions with Planet Aid

This part 2 of Richmond Vale Academy project leader Javier Camacho, who is spearheading a movement to bring more food security to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His team galvanizes the community to plant gardens that will help them be more self reliant. The need was emphasized even more during the pandemic. He also talks about some new projects and how people can get involved with the sustainable work they are doing at the academy.

On this episode of Keep Me Posted with Planet Aid, host, Monica Johnson, talks to Idrissa Sesay and Kalin Hicks (Vice President and Operations Manager) from the Maryland Bobcats Football Club and Eric Newman from Planet Aid's School and Community Program about their new partnership. Fans of the Bobcats will now be able to come out to the Mayland Soccerplex, in Boyds, MD ,and drop off their donations at one of the yellow bins.

We also discuss some of the history of Maryland's first outdoor pro soccer team and talk about their commitment to their fans, the community and taking sustainability measures to improve the community. It's a great discussion, check it out!

It's fair to say that Planet Aid has a lot of bins in urban and suburban area, and its reach is vast. What makes our Midwest region unique? Operations Manager, Mike Eklund lets us know about the make-up of the area and how Planet Aid operates in the region.

After Planet Aid's Creativity Contest came to an end in November 2022,  Ashley Gaines-Seay from Planet Aid's School & Community Program Department sat down to talk to the Creativity Contest winners. Here's there conversation. 

On this episode of Keep Me Posted with Planet Aid, we are learning about an on campus and app-based program called Thrifthouse. It's only on college campuses, and it provides the opportunity for college students to sell used clothing, houseware, technology, etc., to other students on campus. This program promotes sustainability and reuse, and allows students to make money while making ethical and sustainable choices.

𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐌𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐃'𝐀𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞. CEI is one of the Planet Aid Capacity and Environmental grant winners, because they  doing some really impactful work like cultivating their Nourishing Garden and expanding their Maker Space programs. One of the more interesting things discussed in this interview was the history of the lawn and how it evolved out of the era of colonial status symbolism.

Planet Aid is hosting another creativity contest for our participating schools and community partners. Host, Monica Johnson, talks to Planet Aid School and Community Program's Ashley Gaines-Seay to find out the guidelines for entry and the all-important grand prize! 

Whether it's a poem, photography, an essay, a song, dance, or skit, Planet Aid is looking for creativity.
