I did everything right....The nervous system work, the somatic healing, the diet, the pace. And I still got unwell. This episode is me figuring out why.
If you've spent any time in wellness or personal development, you know the story. Your physical symptoms are connected to unhealed emotional trauma. Your body is keeping score. Do the work, and the body follows.
I believed that. I taught it. And somewhere along the way, it quietly became a very sophisticated form of self-blame.
What shifted things for me was a piece of research from 1967. A psychologist named Hans Eysenck proposed something called the structural weakness model, and it reframes the whole picture. Instead of a straight line from emotional wound to physical symptom, he placed a third variable above both: your underlying biological structure. Shaped by genetics and early environment, it branches in two directions at once. Your emotional sensitivity is one branch. Your physical vulnerability is the other. They're not causing each other. They share a root.
For me, that means my adenomyosis and my sensitivity aren't a sign that I haven't healed enough. My body just processes the world more intensely. That's my baseline. And my life needs to be designed around that, not in spite of it.

This podcast explores the intersection of sales, money, and business success, offering entrepreneurial insights on overcoming the inner critic, burnout, and the unique challenges of ADHD and autoimmune conditions, while integrating polyvagal theory, Ayurveda, coaching, resilience, regulation, and trauma healing to support holistic growth and thriving in both life and business.
The wellness industry and self-help culture have created a cycle where people “heal and regulate” endlessly, making them fragile and stuck in internal excavation of wounds, attachment, nervous systems, and beliefs while deprioritizing outward building, contributing, and showing up in the world.
This self-examination loop can worsen wellbeing because humans are wired for belonging, being needed, competence, making things, and community—needs that can’t be met by thinking alone but by going outward. Regulation is as access to choice: choosing how to show up and contribute even when not feeling great.

Burnout is often a timing problem rather than a workload problem, because cognitive capacity fluctuates across the day, week, month, and (especially for women) across hormonal cycles.
Sustainable productivity comes from learning your predictable high- and low-capacity windows (chronotypes) and matching task type to those rhythms: schedule heavy strategy and complex thinking when capacity is high, and do lighter administrative or relational work when energy drops, instead of forcing consistency.
Sheridan shares her own pattern of concentrating on demanding work early in the week to prevent burnout and make time off easier, and invites listeners to notice what feels doable and collaborate with others to create an ideal schedule. Examples include “Jack,” who protects 4–6 PM for deep work, and “Sally,” a rotating-shift nurse who uses micro-regulation and somatic practices between tasks to reduce cognitive depletion.

“I just need to pivot my life and my burnout will heal.”
Ever thought that?
I did… I pivoted and left a job in commercial mortgage brokering so that I could teach yoga. Burnout. Then I went to 1:1 work for OCD & Relationships. Burnout. Then I optimised my wellness. Burnout. Then my business model… Burnout.
This week on the podcast, I started busting 4 common myths about success that cause burnout. I’m joined by Hannah who is one of the only somatic nervous system coaching I can currently stand in the online space :)
We cover:
Why burnout often follows you if the pattern comes with you (scarcity, people-pleasing, fear, over-responsibility).
The “fight, flight, freeze… and pivot” loop that shapes big decisions.
A pre-pivot question: What might follow me into this next chapter that I want to shift now?

Are you the family mediator, emotional manager, and conflict preventer? This could be an invisible workload the nervous system learned to carry for safety. Tracking group emotions and “keeping the peace” can become a childhood strategy to get needs met, and suggests building body attunement by noticing tension around certain people and asking: what am I holding responsibility for? Is it mine to hold today? And what is my responsibility instead?

If you’ve ever found yourself staring at a simple task and wondering why your body won’t move even though your mind understands exactly what needs to be done, this is for you, because that moment is rarely about motivation and much more often about a nervous system that has quietly reached capacity. This episode explores why simple tasks can trigger a freeze response, how to distinguish between overload and threat responses, and introduces a practical two-minute practice to retrain your system. Sheridan, a somatic trauma therapist and yoga therapist, shares insights on managing nervous system responses through somatic practices and behavioral psychology, tailored for those dealing with work, money, and burnout.
