Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.
This is a GUIDED MEDITATION ON LOVING KINDNESS (METTA) for our YOUNGER AUDIENCE, based on the Buddha's Teaching of the Karaniyametta Sutta (Sn1.8).
We develop loving kindness (metta) in 15 steps, like going to METTA SCHOOL, using the grading system as a way to gradually develop the virtues and qualities of loving kindness.
Find a comfortable sitting position (on a chair or on a cushion on the floor). Follow the instructions in the guided meditation. You can begin meditating with your eyes open. Eventually when you become more familiar and skilled at this meditation, you can meditate with your eyes closed.
If you need the more detailed explanation of the meditation, you can look at this Dhamma session on our Sutta Meditation Series YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itCUvxILDIY
It's also good to make some of your own notes about the meditation steps and make an effort to memorise them.

THIS EPISODE focuses on THREE KINDS OF CONCEIT (including ARROGANCE) - omāna, māna and atimāna
It is a GUIDED MEDITATION with a specific focus on our Dhamma Practice and how we can't see the dirty, defiled, ugly and nasty side in how we practice and manifest, despite doing what is good.
We look with honesty where we may not see how we breed defilements even within Dhamma - with our kalyanamittas, Dhamma teachers and fellow practitioners, and in our dealings with Dhamma groups, circles and communities.
We "clean" the mind of the these mental stains and make a strong determination not to cultivate or breed these defilements. We also have an intention to correct our view if we are holding onto any wrong views that are blocking our Path.

Following a request to provide short instructions to meditate on the Anumāna Sutta (MN 15), this short talk gives a brief summary of the sequential steps to abandon unwholesome "duvaco" qualities that make us difficult to instruct and cultivate more wholesome "suvaco" qualities that make us easy to instruct. Venerable MahaMoggallana encourages us to regularly review ourselves by using the simile of the mirror to see if we have any blemishes.
It's useful to have listened to the longer session "Why we struggle to understand Dhamma". This talk is part of a multi-part series titled "Unlocking the Buddha's Code", examining the importance of meditating on suttas, or the Buddha's specific instructions contained in the suttas. We look into the Buddha's instructions before he passed away; what he foretold when it comes to the decline and disappearance of the teachings; the unique method of instruction contained in the Pali Canon that unlocks the Buddha's code or insight pathway; why it's good to be "suvaco" or willing to follow instructions; and a glimpse at a few other useful things.
The talks that will follow this one, will take a closer look at Buddha's method of instruction, including nyanapathas or insight (knowledge) pathways, as well as "deep diving" into examples from the suttas.
Suttas referred to in this talk:

Role models play an important part in all of our lives, whether we seek them out or not. And whether we walk the Buddhist Path or not, they can have the power to shape the direction we take and the ability to influence the decisions that follow on from there. For Buddhist practitioners, the Buddha is our most eminent role model, teacher and the Perfectly Enlightened One. And there are also many noble and great disciples of the Buddha.
Today we will focus again on lay women disciples of the Buddha, and one in particular, Queen Samavati, who was declared by the Buddha as his foremost female disciple who excelled in dwelling in loving kindness (mettāvihāranaṃ) - AN1.261.
In learning about such noble beings, we can delight in their lives and accomplishments; recognise the importance of seeing them as worthy role models; and use it as inspiration towards progress on the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path
