      • Guided Meditation - DIRTY DHAMMA PRACTICE - PART 1

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.

THIS EPISODE focuses on the FIRST 7 MENTAL STAINS - covetousness & unequal greed, ill will, anger, hostility, derogation, disparaging and envy.

This is a GUIDED MEDITATION with a specific focus on our Dhamma Practice and how we can't see the dirty, defiled, ugly and nasty side in how we practice and manifest, despite doing what is good.

We look with honesty where we may not see how we breed defilements even within Dhamma - with our kalyanamittas, Dhamma teachers and fellow practitioners, and in our dealings with Dhamma groups, circles and communities.

We "clean" the mind of the these mental stains and make a strong determination not to cultivate or breed these defilements. We also have an intention to correct our view if we are holding onto any wrong views that are blocking our Path.

A VIDEO with slides of this talk (split into 9 PARTS) has been uploaded to the Sutta Meditation Series YouTube channel. The playlist can be accessed here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlRz574kArmAKQzlC-qwbLCmaidxRLTib

      • WHO ARE OUR ROLE MODELS? - Khujjutara, lay role model for our daughters (stream-enterer)

Role models play an important part in all of our lives, whether we seek them out or not. And whether we walk the Buddhist Path or not, they can have the power to shape the direction we take and the ability to influence the decisions that follow on from there. For Buddhist practitioners,  the Buddha is our most eminent role model, teacher and the Perfectly Enlightened One. And there are also many noble and great disciples of the Buddha.

Today we will focus on lay woman disciples of the Buddha, and one in particular, Khujjutara, who was declared by the Buddha as his foremost female disciple in higher learning (having heard much or bahussuta) - AN1.260.

In learning about such a noble being, we can delight in their lives and accomplishments;  recognise the importance of seeing them as worthy role models; and use it as inspiration towards the Noble Eightfold Path.
