You know, you’re usually on the outside, looking inward. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you see your body, so you think you are your body. But look into your own eyes. Get up close in the mirror, and look into your own eyes. There’s somebody in there. That somebody is you. You are so much more than your body. Yes, your body has a limited lifespan. But the you that is in your body, the you that is looking through your eyes, that you, the real you – you are immortal. – Gurudevi Nirmalananda

It’s about cultivating Consciousness. There comes a point where you prefer Consciousness to the many forms of unconsciousness you can find or create. This is why Baba said you’ve got two options — focused on your limitations, marching into the grave — or focusing on your own Divine Essence, getting progressively more and more free. If you’ve got options, you’ve got choices. Who makes the choices?  Who chooses? That would be you.

Yoga’s goal is for you to know your own Self. This frees you from the fear of death, for you know you are immortal, an individualized form of the One Divine Reality. It’s only your body that dies, not your Self. But you need to take care of your body and mind if you want them to last. You can change your future by doing more yoga!

So yoga says, you have to go beyond the theory. You must have an experience. It’s only when you feel it inside that you know it to be true. You must have an experience of your own holiness, of your own Divine essence. Once you experience God within, you know that God is within. Once you experience that God is being you, you know who you really are.
