In this episode, you learn about Ritesh Desai, an engineer who has a joyful personality that stems from his childhood, along his experiences growing up in Southern California and going to college in San Luis Obispo. He also happens to share a personal struggle he’s dealt with throughout his life and how he’s coped and become stronger from those experiences. Somehow, we find out how this srtuggle led to him having a common bond with NBA Hall of Famer and World Champion Bill Walton, who eventually became one of his mentors.

If you ask Jordan Mickens where he’s from, you might not get an immediate or direct response. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, but he moved to New Jersey when he was five. He spent his formative years in Massachusetts at boarding school and Williams College. After two years of consulting in Boston, he moved to Oakland, California and taught high school math for three years. Now, he works as a goals success manager at Clever Inc.

In this episode, you’ll hear Jordan speak about his transition from teaching at a school with limited technological resources for student learning, to working for a disruptive ed tech company. He speaks on the unique makeup of his family and how his younger brother serves as an inspiration to him. Finally, he shares his perspective on his role in conversations about race and privilege.
