No one has never said after a negative study 'looks like acupuncture is useless for this condition.  Stop using it'. That would require a bit of honesty about what is probably a wasted career in acupuncture.

Here are two recent examples.

There is Tinker Bell effect, where “things that are thought to exist only because people believe in them.”

Drinking hydrogen peroxide kills. Homeopaths don't care if their nostrums kill children. Acupuncture is placebo. But you knew that. Saudi Arabia bans reiki for the damnedest reasons. Eating placentas. And more.

Every time I read a pediatric acupuncture study I realize just how broken the IRB system is when it come to protecting vulnerable populations from being abused by pseudo-medical providers.

The issue is a basic one: what is chiropractic? Because various factions have very different views on the answer to that question, the challenges in drafting a set of rules for chiropractic education that everyone can agree upon are understandably formidable.

FDA confirms elevated levels of belladonna in certain homeopathic teething products. Homeopaths prove water not toxic to fish. Lots of acupuncture recommendations, little good data. Legislative alchemy with Jann Bellamy. Everything is CAM. And more.

Nothing brings it home like numbers. Today I came across the US mortality statistics from 1905.

What, you may ask, is BS?

My first hit on Google says

Liver toxicity from herbs. Popped lungs from acupuncture. Chiropractic does not help scoliosis. Yoga is just exercise. There are eight kinds of wind: Great Feathery Wind, Scheming Wind, Hard Wind, Great Hard Wind, Ferocious Wind, Infant’s Wind, Feathery Wind and, yes, Breaking Wind. And more.

There is a shortage of primary care providers in Oregon. The wrong solution is paying providers who are educated in pseudo-science, trained in pseudo-science and practice pseudo-science. As Simon Singh noted, just because there are issues with the airlines does not mean we should use magic carpets.
