I talk about what I'm learning in the book White Fragility. It's very humbling to me to realize that I don't have the first clue what it means to be a minority in the US. I have my experience as a woman, which comes with its own perils, but to be a different color brings so many further restrictions with it that I had never even considered. It is overwhelming to actually read through and see lists and descriptions of all the limitations minorities face in their day-to-day life and in situations where one is applying for something. There's so much more to write and say about this topic -- I can't possibly do it justice, but I'm becoming aware of what's happening and I will use this knowledge to be more understanding now and in the future.
