We would love to hear from you!
The wilderness grumblings continue, as the Israelites bring another complaint against God. The Lord will provide for them again, this time in the form of manna and quail to eat each day. A new season and a new economy has begun in the wilderness. God is replacing the memory of plagues with His daily provision. Can we trust in God's provision no matter what season of life or what place we find ourselves? Can we be satisfied with God gives us and resist the temptation to take more than we need?

The Israelites have been brought out of Egypt and they are led by God to the edge of the Sea - there appears to be no way forward. Was leaving Egypt a mistake? Can they trust this God who has led them to this point? Can we trust God when we don't know the future and we don't know how to endure the present?

The final plague is about to happen, and Yahweh asks his people to prepare a meal that would mark the beginning of their new life free from oppression. This meal tells the story of God's rescuing love and it is meant to be passed on for generations. God gives his people the protection they need, and they trust Him by doing what He says. This is an identifying mark of their belonging to God, and they worship Him in their homes. Centuries later, this same Passover meal is celebrated by Jesus before his death and he speaks about his own body and blood given for others, and asks his followers to keep remembering Him by celebrating this meal. Jesus' saving death is connected to this original rescue story as God's Son gives His life for us.

Pharaoh and God face off in the "plague cycle", where God demonstrates his mighty works in defence of His people. Who is Yahweh? Why should we listen to Him? Exodus 7 to 10 is God's extended answer - watch and SEE who God is. Even Pharaoh cannot contain God. In the same way, we did not create the world that feeds us - we are receivers before we are owners.

Chapter 5 of Exodus marks the beginning of the conflict between God and Pharaoh. The Egyptian ruler asks - Who is the Lord? This question will be answered over the next 10 chapters as God reveals His power and His authority to this unbelieving tyrant. As for Israel, God is committed to be their redeemer - He will be the close relative that brings the nation out of slavery. When we are suffering, can we trust that God's faithfulness will outlast our pain?

Silent until this point in the book, in Exodus 3 God speaks at length with Moses and reveals not only His divine identity, but provides Moses insight into his own identity. From this point on, God will show again and again WHO He is and how He will care for His people. In answer to human insecurity God offers us HIMSELF as reassurance.

Teaching at our Neighbourhood Table, Andy continues the story of Moses in chapter 2 of Exodus. Moses sees the injustice against God's people, but he fails in his attempts to address it and he ends up committing injustice himself. God sees everything that is going on and is turning towards action to keep his covenant promises. How do we keep hope with God, waiting for Him to save us, in the midst of difficult circumstances?
