  • Religion as an Idol

Today's podcast is a bit longer than normal. Heather is closing out her week of podcasts as we are talking about idols. We start talking about religion and go on a few tangents. Heather breaks out in song and even quotes an Ice Cube song. Take a listen and and add your thoughts to the Facebook comments.

The music on the podcast is by John Nugent. He is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church.

  • Sports as an Idol

Today Heather and I are going to talk about sports. Heather has never held this as an idol but I think there are many out there who are not holding this correctly. Pastor Phil has had a problem with this in the past. If my team wins, all is good, but if they lose then it effects the rest of the day or even more. We can be passionate about sports and get excited but it shouldn't control our whole world. Let's run the race!

  • Busyness as an Idol

Today we are going to talk about busyness. We wear busyness like a badge of honor. We think that if we are busy, then we are important. Busyness can become our identity and we can be afraid of being called lazy because it challenges our self-image. When we are busy we miss out on all the moments that God wants us to cherish. We have been given some time to reevaluate our lives and capture the Kairos moments.

  • Relationships as an Idol

Today Heather and I explore more of the topic of idols. We focus on relationships as an idol. It is okay to miss people and being with them is good, but if we are looking to a relationship to fulfill us or give us an identity, then it is in the wrong position. We need to evaluate our relationships to see a godly perspective in it all.

  • Idol Factory

On Sunday at Tabor Church we talked about giving and identified that one reason people may not want to talk about it is because money might be an idol. Today we are going to start the discussion about idols and idols aren't the evil or bad things but is often something good that we are looking towards to save us or bring us ultimate joy and hope. Let us look to the things of God.

  • Jesus Is Coming Soon! Don't Freak Out

Today we have a special guest on the podcast...my beautiful bride! Because Heather hasn't been on since the very first episode, I thought it was time to bring her back on and find out what she has been thinking about and what God has been teaching her. We do go over the 5 min mark but 7 min isn't too bad.

  • Finding Your Constant

Everything seems to change daily. There is more news about those contracting the virus and those that are dying from it. Everything seems to change all the time. We need to find our constant, the thing that never changes. The thing that we will go back to when we feel like we are spinning out of control. What is your constant?

I made mention of Desmond from Lost- here is a link to the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUaHMOWRYpI

  • Serving in the Age of Coronavirus

I want to collectively think about ways in which the Church can best be serving our neighbors at this time. It is good to social distance yourself to protect your neighbors by not spreading any illness. But I think we also need to think about other ways. What ways can a small church or individuals serve their neighbors?

  • Nothing to Say

Today we are putting out our 50th episode. I didn't realize that it was the 50th until I saved the audio file. I don't have a lot to say today and instead of forcing some cliche thought or giving you a profound platitude, I thought it would be good to tell you that I have nothing to say. Maybe you have been there before. So today I want to know what is good in your life? What is God teaching you right now?

  • Make Room

I want to remind everyone today that the Church is not perfect. It is full of messy things because it's full of messy people. Jesus still loves His Church and died for that imperfect bride. I think the church and people have tried to rush through grief and pain because it is too hard to sit in. We need to make room for grief, sadness and a plethora of other emotions in ourselves and others.
