Emily Hatch Manwaring graduated from BYU with a degree in Family Life Sciences. She was diagnosed with Endometriosis as a teenager and has been an an advocate for the disease since. Endometriosis is estimated to affect 1 in 10 women and “a general lack of awareness by both women and health care providers, due to a “normalisation” of symptoms, results in a significant delay from when a woman first experiences symptoms until she eventually is diagnosed and treated” (Endometriosis.org). Endometriosis can cause infertility, however with early treatment this can often be avoided. On July 30, 2020 Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer fought to double the federal endometriosis funding, and the House of Representatives passed it. Listen to this episode as we tackle the impacts this can have and what it’s like to struggle with women’s health in 2020.
