  • Redthread Part One
    In this special episode we look at the amazing work of the charity Redthread who work with vulnerable young people to help them lead happy, healthy and safe lives.
    After starting their work in London they moved to the QMC at Nottingham and have since moved to Birmingham as well.
    We chat to the QMC team: Freya Owen (Youth Worker), David Bentley (Team Leader) and Richard Botto (Programme Co-Ordinator)about how Redthread came to Nottingham, their own backgrounds and how they joined Redthread and their day-to-day work with young people. There's advice along the way, inspiration and a chat about CurlyWurlies!

  • Mental Status Examination & Suicide Risk Assessment
    Our favourite psychiatrist Dr James Ellison came down to the booth again to go through Mental State Examination and how we can assess a patient's suicide risk.
    First up we go through how we can examine a patient's mental state.  The MSE is part of the Psychiatric assessment performed alongside taking a full history.  We at the different composite parts:
    Appearance
    Behaviour
    Speech
    Mood
    Thoughts
    Perceptions
    Cognition
    Insight
    We then look at assessing a patient's suicide risk.  First there are the individual patient and then situational factors going through the more risky features in the history
